I know the carpet is name brand, but was wondering about the price and Lowes installation. Is it better to just go to a carpet store. I'm trying to save money, but don't want to sacrifice quality and professional installation.

Lowes has the same carpet and hires the same independent installers.
I've used both. Less expensive through Lowes. Either way you go, you still have to watch the installers. We used the last incarnation of the place in downtown Bryan for tile and carpet and had two big issues.
I made sure that the installer was aware of not getting thinset or grout on the newly installed but unstained custom cabinets. Needless to say, when I got to the house after work, every single cabinet had three inch stains around the base. It ruined every one of them.
The store used a different brand of carpet from what we purchased. Even though it was the same color, cut, weight, and made by DuPont, it wasn't what I had a receipt for.
We ended up in arbitration to get the issues resolved. The store paid for new cabinets and refunded almost all of the money for the carpet. I would have been reasonable and taken a "we're sorry about the carpet and we'll do a small goodwill discount" but they blew me off and got really rude.
Moral: be extremely vigilant.

Rexter, thanks for the reply. That's kinda scary but not surprising. Both my daughter and son just built new houses in CS, two different builders, and the quality of the crews from every trade was terrible. They just don't care and the builders don't ride them hard enough to get good work out of them. Some crews do good work. Most won't. One builder higher end, one builder lower end. Didn't matter.

Parents used Lowe's for porcelain tile purchase and install. Product was great but the contractor jacked up the install. After a site visit involving Lowe's and the contractor they ripped it out and reinstalled correctly.

Lowes does not have in house installers its all sub-contractors. You also pay for the estimate with a credit back if you buy from them. Nice thing its its Lowes and you get the big company to stand behind the product. I used Lowes in Bryan. One contractor came out and measured, with a differnt installer. Had an issue and Lowes send out a thrid guy to fix it. I think it was more who was up that day.

Tried to use Lowes. Total disaster.

Wound up just getting my money back and going to Aggieland Carpet. They were great.

For carpet you'll probably be fine. For tile and bigger projects I would avoid buying from there. My parents did that and were callback kings because they never could lay sheets of mosaic right. In the end they got it straightened out but I'm not sure how many tries it took.
