Houston shower doors quoted $1800-2200 for 3/8" glass and shower guard.

Any ideas on other places I could go? I was thinking $400-600 would be reasonable...

Is there a good and/or easy way to replace the brass trim on a shower door?

I bought a glass shower door complete with hinges from Meyerland Glass (Murphy Rd Stafford)for less than $400. Installation advice was free.

i don't have it, but I've heard that semi frameless can be considerably cheaper. its basically the frameless setup with a stainless band running around the top. meyerland could probably provide this as well.

Your quote is for more than I paid for frameless on a corner shower.

So you need just a door or a door and all 3 sides of glass enclosure ?

A door and 1 side of glass. It's a corner unit. The other two sides are tile

I paid $1100 for frameless shower just like yours Dill- this was in 2010 though. I had gotten 3 or 4 estimates that were a lot higher before that.

Keep us updated where you go. Shower doors of Houston quoted me $2200 for a 6.5 foot wide by 7 foot section of glass, half of which was going to be a door. This was for a shower at the end of the bathroom so I only needed one side.

If I go - haha. I had no idea it'd be so expensive. Doubt we'll end up doing anything.

Ok, at the risk of being ridiculed and having a hundred people point out what I did was wrong for a hundred reasons, I'll tell you the 8 dollar fix.

I moved into a very nice home, but the original owners (who built it for themselves only a few years ago) had all brass fixtures.

I spent a lot if time replacing all the fixtures with pretty nice oil rubbed bronze ones. I learned a lot and enjoyed it. The problem is it cost a lot. So when it came to my shower I thought I'd try something.

My shower has two glass wall with brass trim. I took it all down. Cleaned and descaled it. Then I spray painted it with the best all surface oil rubbed bronze paint I could get at lowes. I threw on a layer of spray polyurethane and put the whole thing back together.

I gotta tell you, I do a lot if projects and this may be the one I'm most proud of because of how much I saved and really just how good it looks.

Two years later it is still holding on.

If you have the time, trying this is sort if a risk less project if you are determined to replace it anyway.

I was just hoping to get a few months out of it to defer the cost a while.

Just lately I've had a few spots of brass show up on the bottom. It is almost unnoticeable bc edges on a lot of orb fixtures have a shine. Second if all it us on the inside if my master shower so no one sees it anyway. And lastly, I may just do it again someday. That paint has some flakes in it to really mimic the texture of real orb.

Since then I've painted other light fixtures too and have saved a fortune. I love that paint!

I have done that sort of thing too...spray painted over the brass with one of the rustoleum products. It was a starter home and didn't have to be perfect. Saved me a ton and looked good enough.

Grinder I did the same thing with my shower trim, faucets in two bathrooms, and all of the inside doorknobs in my house. PITA but saved a lot of $$.
