How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ags,
I just bought a home in Spring and it came with a Culligan Gold Series softener with Aqua Sensor...something like that. There is also a large bucket of salt next to it in the garage.
I think our water is fine and don't plan to use the softener.

I'm thinking about selling it, but can't really figure out how much it is worth. I suppose I could call Culligan, but I doubt I'd get any numbers out of them for getting rid of their equipment. Not sure how old it is, but can anyone give me an idea? I've seen numbers through Google from $1000-$4000 for new equipment.
TIA

Hard water can be rough on your dishes and appliances...why not soften it?

Even if you don't want to use it I would not remove it. Just put it in the bypass position and unplug it. A future home buyer might like that it is there even if you don't.

At the very least, run with it on bypass for 4 or 5 months and see what happens. When I run with mine on bypass, toilets get a scale that is hard to remove, faucets build up with crap, dishes coming out of the dishwasher look like crap, etc. After such a time has passed without wondering if you should turn it on, go ahead and get rid of it.

My "crappy" GE water softener was $600ish at lowes. I don't know how much the Culligan Gold with aquasense water softener we had installed at the store runs, but the whole system installed was around $11k. That's filter, softener with 2 tall upright things, RO system with a poly tank and a pressure pump installed. My guess would be that puts your system in the $1-1.5k range new.

Acall to your local Culligan would get you that info. They may even be able to help you move it.

Thanks for the responses, but my water isn't hard. It takes up space in my garage where I would rather park a car. Thus, I want to get rid of it.
Any idea on my OP?

Thanks Wunder. I didn't see your post before I replied. I guess we posted at the same time.

wunderbrad,

What has your experience been like with the GE water softener? How does it stack up against something like a Culligan system?

I'll throw in a good word for Kennmore. We had one from the mid-2000s in our house in San Antonio and it worked great. I add salt, it removes hardness. End of transaction.
