What are you trying to kill? Roundup won't kill everything. You'll get the best results by determining what you're trying to kill and then selecting the appropriate chemical.

Also, it helps to add a few drops of dish soap to the herbicide solution. This helps it adhere to the leaves.

I'm trying to take out vines virginia creeper, and some bermuda grass from a planter. Is round up a good call for that, or is there something better?

Sometimes doubling the recommended amount can actually be counter-productive because it will cause the plant to not accept the chemical. The recommended amounts are there to ensure proper absorption of the chemical. Round-up (Glyphosate) could take up to a week before you start seeing dead plants, it is a systemic herbicide, it takes time. Another thing to take into account is how dry the plants are you are trying to kill. If they are not in an actively growing state, then, again, you are not effectively administering the herbicide.

If you are in CS go talk with the people up at Producers, they'll be able to tell you specifically what you need to kill a specific plant/grass.

EDIT: Round-Up should be plenty enough for bermuda grass. Virginia Creeper....good luck its a pain to control. It may need some form of Picloram (Tordon), or Triclopyr (Remedy). Its been a while since I've dealt with it.

Cut the stalk at the ground and directly apply full strength RoundUp.

RoundUp should kill Bermuda without a problem. If it isn't killing the Bermuda, you've got problems with the application or chemical itself.

As long as the herbicide makes sufficient contact with the zoysia, it should have no problem killing it.

20% vinegar.
Use on a hot day, when plant is dry. Will take about 2 spplications

+2 on the vinegar...avoid skin contact tho

2. Remember: Roundup is primarily a grass killer. It has wonderful properties on broadleaf plants, but it needs some help. I have HEARD <*ahem*> that just a few drops of Weed-B-Gone in the spray solution, along with the soap, will pick up the broadleaf activity considerably.
3. Vinegar and orange oil combos work very quickly (in hours on a hot day), but this will not translocate to the roots. It will kill seedlings and annual plants, but not perennials (like zoysia or bermudagrass). These will need multiple applications.

For the creeper, you will need a broad-leaf version of round-up, but be sure to keep it off your trees.

Soil sterilant and a backhoe? That stuff is brutal.

Repeat applications of Roundup (with a good surfactant/soap) will nail bamboo eventually. Just let it get healthy and leafybetween applications. A healthy, vigorously growing weed is the easiest to kill.
