Anyone have/used a filtered showerhead? We have very hard water but don't really want to invest in a whole-house softening system (we'll hopefully be moving in the next year or so).

Thanks in advance.

Why do you want to filter the shower water - definitely the drinking water and icemaker, but the shower? Personally I'd rather shower in hard water (v soft) because I feel like the soap is being washed off.

We have very hard water and I use the low-flow showerheads. They work great - just have to take them off and soak in limeaway every couple of years.

My skin and hair feel much better and seem to be healthier (less hair breakage) with soft vs. hard water. My hair was in much better shape when I lived in College Station.

I would like to soften water to the whole house, but with the possibility of moving in the next year, my husband and I don't want to invest in a softener or move one to a new location.

Thats because they are actually clean. Hard water does not allow you to wash the soap and dirt effectively. Soap turns to a grubby solid when mixed with Ca and Mg ions in hard water. So, i guess, most of the soap DOES wash off, but it it never has a decent chance of cleaning anything before being bound up with other things.

Im not sure of a filter head that will soften water since its an ion exchange thing. If it were me, I would get a whole house softening unit, put it in line, and take it with you when you move.
