We are members at Cypress Lakes which will close at some point, who knows when. I have 14 year old daughter that plays competitively, so we need need access to range/practice facility and unlimited golf to practice. Know that Cypress Lakes isn't going to be around I started looking this past summer.

Gleannloch $2K initiation $350/month (27 holes)
Augusta Pines and Gleannloch $4K initiation $400/month single $460/month family (45 holes)
Highland, Augusta and Gleannloch $7500 initiation $475/month single $560/month family (they call this the Pines Collection) (63 holes)

Highland by itself, same initiation $7500, single is $425/month and family is $495/month

So why would you get HIghland by itself, get the collection. Yes they are public and yes it is expensive but if you play a lot, you probably get your moneys worth.

By contrast Black Horse was a one time application fee of $1500, membership was $485 per month individual and $575 per month family (36 holes)

Edit: Regarding Lake Windcrest.

Appreciate it! Is the course pretty accessible on the weekends? I assume getting a tee time for a twilight round during the week is rather easy (or at least I would hope).

Haven't played out there in years, but that initiation / monthly dues sounds very reasonable if course is still in good shape. Don't remember too much about the clubhouse or practice facilities.

Mornings on the weekends can be busy but nothing too bad. Always plenty of times for twilight rounds. If you're a glutton for punishment like me and don't mind playing when it's 100+ in the summer you can always get afternoon times too.

Practice grounds and clubhouse are nothing special but definitely serviceable.

always loved playing Lake Windcrest. like the other poster said, not a whole lot in terms of club house / range, but it was always a good time and they have some unique holes.

I don't live within 1,000 miles any more but I always liked Lake Windcrest. Lived 10 years in Gleannloch and just seeing the carts stacked up on the tee boxes keep me from ever playing there.

One other thing on Lake Windcrest- it's private. Not semi private like some of the other courses mentioned above. You have to be a member or guest of one to play. I don't really understand the membership benefit of a course that still allows public play so that is another thing to keep in mind.

Exactly. As I said I lived in Gleannloch which is semi-private, whatever that means, and when I would leave for work in the morning there would sometimes be 10-15 carts on the number one tee box on the 9 that goes east of Champions Forest. I've been gone a year so maybe it's changed but it always looked like a beat down to me.

It means public, but we hope people will pay monthly dues anyway.

We're about to move to Northampton area, Willow Creek and Augusta Pines are both right there. Are either worth the membership?

I like AP. Fun track, pretty solid layout. But it's a public course so not worth a membership IMO unless you plan to play there a LOT.

Willow Creek is OK but a little quirky. Recommend you try before you buy. Make sure you like it. Used to be part of Clubcorp network. Not sure what the management structure/reciprocal is now.

Only issue w Conroe CC is you have to play at least a threesome Friday-Sunday from i think 9-2 or 9-1

It's 9-3 I believe and we've had a wait list for a while now. There are pros and cons of having 9 holes, the 9-3 3some rule is a con for sure. But a necessity for pace of play and ability to make the turn. Club has changed so much since I was a kid mostly for the better. We cap out at 300 members and when I was a kid, maybe 35% of them were actually golfers. Now, that number is well north of 70 If I had to guess. Used to be only guy on course on a Wednesday afternoon. Now course gets a ton of play but the staff kicks ass. You'd be hard pressed to find faster greens anywhere in the spring time

There are some legendary money games and Calcuttas out here. Colt Knost has discussed it many times on his podcast. His college roommate is a member out there. Mark Hubbard is frequently out here as is Parker McCollum
Im looking for Ray Finkle.... and a clean pair of shorts. Im just a very big Finkle fan. This is my Graceland, sir.
