Golf/Country Club Options in The Woodlands/Spring/Conroe?

As I'm looking at options (early the in the process with checking things out online), I'd love to get some unvarnished feedback from my TexAgs friends on the clubs in The Woodlands area?

What are some of the best value options? Best courses? Best amenities? Best family atmosphere for events with young children? Overcrowded/difficulty getting tee times?

Near me would be:

- Willow Creek Country Club (can't find much on it?)
- Augusta Pines Country Club
- The Trails at The Woodlands
- The Woodlands Country Club
- any others in that general area that I'm missing?

Suggestions? Is The Trails at The Woodlands or The Woodlands CC going to buy Willow Creek to add another course option for the members?

I'd look into augusta pines and see if it gets access to highland pines

I think augusta pines is back in better condition than it was

The best bang for your buck is Kingwood CC since it has 4 courses and is a reasonable price, but its a little bit of a drive. If price isn't a big issue then just go with Woodlands CC. Willow Creek is just not much fun if you like hitting driver (can only use driver on like 5 holes total). Lake Windcrest is a good option as well and has a pretty cool layout.

Augusta Pines is a fun track but it's a public course. As mentioned, Willow Creek is not the best design.

Agree Kingwood is a nice option if it's convenient. Lot of courses and amenities. Woodlands CC is the best of the bunch if you're ok with the cost.

Willow creek is not a big name but my BIL is a member there and he likes it a lot. Great value. Course layout is interesting and fun. Membership is cool and course is not usually crowded. If you're looking for value WC is a good option.

Isn't it a lot more expensive than the others.

I'm at Lake Windcrest over in Magnolia. I live near the mall and drive down Research to 1488 so its pretty easy to get to. I'd look at it as well.

They do offer a membership that gets you access to three courses (Augusta, Highlands, and 1 other whose name escapes me). I believe the initiation is $7500 and around $500/month dues.

If you're not a long hitter, Willow Creek would be fine. However, it's a tricky little course and there is certainly some white knuckle golf out there.

How high dollar is Woodforest these days?

That's crazy if true. Those are all public courses.

Everyone has access.

I was thinking the same thing. All 3 public courses… $7500/$500 seems really steep. For what, earlier access to preferred tee times?

Not sure all the details on what members get versus the public. But if, say, you're retired and play 5 days/week, it would make sense.

It's my understanding they want to take Highland fully private at some point.

I've heard getting a tee time at Kingwood on weekends is dang near impossible and if you do get ready for a 5.5 hour round

What about Woodforest?

Last I heard Woodforest had raised the initiation to $20k and dues were over $600/mo.

Woodforest is also on a waitlist unless you buy a NEW house in Woodforest.

Not a member at GP but they let anyone in the members bar area, mostly a ghost town after rounds but the bartenders serve there

That's not accurate. There are 4 courses and always tee times available on the weekends.

I haven't been a member at KWCC for 5-6 years, but it's always been crowded at peak times...wait a bit or show up at an off-peak time and you'll get out without any issue.

I have friends that are members at Willow Creek and like it. I'm a member at Northgate and really enjoy it. Lots of stuff going on.

Otw almost $200k initiation and the dues are around 1500 minimum. But man it's badass out there. Both courses out there are really good. Plus if nobody is around when you're playing #10 on the Fazio course you can fire some balls from the green over the water at Patrick Reed's crib

I've actually heard good things about Conroe Country Club. It is only 9 holes (maybe 2 sets of tees?), but supposed to have a very active family and social scene in addition to a nice course.

Played Highland Pines and it looks to be a good option before it gets too pricey and established.

Only issue w Conroe CC is you have to play at least a threesome Friday-Sunday from i think 9-2 or 9-1

Yes my uncle is a member at Bent water and has said the same. Said he heard Sam Bennet lost $30k in a skins game there a year or so ago. They also have a big calcutta tournament where several top players will come in to compete.

Wow had to separate bent water so it wouldn't be edited lol

Don't remember the exact details but I think Chandler Phillips talked about losing around 30k out at Conroe on the subpar podcast a few months ago.

What are the initiation / dues at Lake Windcrest now? Is it separate from Woodlands or part of that package.

Have you played Grand Pines at Bent water?

I've been trying to work on Bent water as an option with the multiple courses. Wife still isn't onboard though.

yes its a separate deal now. that's how it was when I joined and they had just left the other courses. From members that have ben there a while it sounds like a better deal since its much less crowded.

Not sure what the new initiation fee is. I want to say $5k but not 100%. Dues are around $550.00 or so depending on how much you play of course.

When I was looking at it middle of last year, initiation was $2,500 and monthly dues were $430 for a full membership. I did not love the layout when I played it. I also still haven't joined anywhere almost a year later because I can't make up my mind, so maybe it's just me.
