They also don't have a pending major championship and Ryder Cup on their resume. It's certainly expensive and the limited public play is a detractor, but it's hard to even know what "over-priced" means these days when every club is so expensive and has a waitlist of people willing to pay for it.

The only reason that PGA Frisco has a pending major championship (PGA Championship) and Ryder Cup is because PGA Frisco is the new headquarters of the PGA of America, and the PGA of America controls both the PGA Championship and Ryder Cup events.

PGA Frisco may turn out to be an exceptional golf facility worthy of hosting major championships, but at this stage to somehow equate that PGA Frisco has earned or is deserving of a major or Ryder Cup is absurd.

Oh I'm aware of the reasons, but it doesn't change the fact that creates prestige. I'm also aware of multiple friends who have played the east coarse and each one raved about how awesome it is.

It was always going to be expensive, and I'm sure it will be awesome.

It's worth what people are willing to pay for it, just like all the rest on the list.

Going to stay and play the PGA Frisco during Arky weekend. They have like 13 places to eat on the property. Can't book a tee time until 120 days out.

A number of DFW clubs are in that range or higher. This project was intended to bring championship golf to Texas, so the price is going to reflect that.

From avidgolfer's 2022 club rankings:

I had no idea Denton Country Club has a $50,000 initiation fee. I mean, it's a fine CC, but not $50,000 fine.

I guess that is why I am a member of Oakmont (#28) on the list. The Twilight Golf membership is much less than the full golf, and the only real difference for me is the tee times starting at 1pm. It's worth the cheaper fee. Plus it's less than a mile from my house.

I played the West course at PGA and drove the East. For the metroplex, it is on a spectacular piece of land and they used lots of acreage so it feels different from most places you will play. The West was a lot of fun. I am not a fan of the current trend of "tricking up" greens. However, the course needed some defense - it has 70 acres of fairways(as a comparison most courses have 30 or less).
I drove the East course and it looked really difficult. I believe they are going to have some issues to address - there is not continuous cart path on the East and the native areas are going to need a lot of attention and I don't think the East will be particularly fan friendly.

I'm not smart enough to figure out the economics of golf and I am always surprised by where people will travel and what they will pay to play.

I've lived in Frisco for nearly 30 years and even with all that has been built and what will be built, I still have problems seeing it as a Vacation/Resort destination. Having said that, I just read there will be a neighborhood around the courses with homes at $5mil+.

This stuff is crazy to me. I could afford the costs, but one of the reasons I could afford it is because I don't spend my money on 200k country clubs,
Maybe that make me a poor? To each their own though.

Side note, a friend of mine is a member at Trump National here in Va. Nice clubhouse, decent amenities and a beautiful course, 150k for membership and 25k a year based on reports. At least as of a couple of years ago.
I read he was hiking his palm beach property to 350k. So there must be a market.

Anyone played Walnut Creek? I had no idea it was that cheap but it's about four miles away. Easily closest of any of those clubs.

Having a tournament at your club may create prestige, but it's total BS and horrible for the members. Have a buddy who is a member at ACC. They close the course for multiple months throughout the year to prepare for the match play. The guy was spending all this money and could never actually play golf at his club. They celebrated when they heard the tournament was leaving after this year.

And we may have an actual clubhouse and indoor facilities for the first time in 30 months!

Don't play nearly as much as I should. Men's group plays quite often and has some good guys in it.

Love the course. Very traditional parkland style with some good elevation and different types of holes. Better have your sand game on point.

We'll see how much Arcis ruins everything. They seem to be spending lots of money on stuff but nothing, outside of redoing the bunkers, has yielded anything of value for members, yet.

The one reason we didn't join back in 2020/2021 was the lack of amenities. We want tennis there for the daughter.

I haven't but they have 36 holes. I may go out there and try to play and see if I want to pull the trigger, as I have two kids that are getting into golf. They are run by ClubCorp, which I'm not wild about...

yeah well it's a golf club, not a country club.

Members have voted down lots of other amenities over the year to keep costs down and from the club just filling up with people.

From what I hear though is that there is already a ton of people.

everyone thinks their golf course is overcrowded.

Truth is, I never have issues getting on when I want as long as book the 5 days in advance.

Any club where you can just walk up and get on is one where you're paying through the nose and have huge assessments.

We were at Gleneagles for a few years... now THAT is crammed. Good luck getting on Saturday mornings, ever.

Luckily the Men's group at GC plays around 9-10am so you can usually get out well ahead of them.
