Does anyone have a suggestion for a golf simulator (Indoor), and maybe what the pros and cons are of that suggestion. We have plenty of room based on what I'm seeing online on dimensions, so that isn't really an issue. I appreciate any info. Thanks!

Simulators have come a long way. There are two technologies to choose from, either Doppler radar or cameras.
Some things to consider:
1. Will it be fixed or do you want portability to take to range?
2. How much room do you have. Doppler requires additional room behind the ball while camera is beside the ball.
3. What metrics do you want to capture. Basic data or advanced data.
4. How much do you want to spend. The simulator is the biggest part of cost but there is also the hitting mats, the capture screens, projector, computer as well.
I bought the Foresight camera model as I wanted to take to range and did not have room behind the ball. Has been great.

1. Want it fixed position
2. We are converting our 30x40 barn into a "Party Barn", so I think we have plenty of room
3. Basic data
4. <20k
5. So many options I see online, but I honestly don't know anything about them.

Thank you!

Golf simulator threads should be combined and stickied as should be backyard putting green threads.

Check out the uneekor' s systems. We're going with the eye xo system in our new build. Add in 2 cameras, fiberbuilt custom mat with 3 putting holes, and a 4K camera …. Still shopping impact screens.

I've got a MEVO+ that has not seen as much use as I thought it would see I'd be willing to part with. Had barely been used 4 times.

I've had a skytrak for 4 years.

It's by far the best investment I've made for my game. Not because it allowed me to swing out of my shoes hitting thousands of drives. It gives me no pleasure or satisfaction to do so other than completely wreck my tempo and timing. In fact, I hardly practice driver swing on the sim.

It helped me dial in my distance with short irons. Especially 100-110 yards. I would like to expand this range to 50-150 yards. In fact, It also taught me what swing works and what doesn't. I intimately understand my ball flight and clubhead path. And when I hit a bad shot, I know why. Boils down to my tempo and balance.

Sure, the thought of playing exotic courses on the sim is enticing. But I derive no pleasure from doing so as it's not fun for me.

How you utilize your sim will evolve I believe. In the beginning, it's the long drive contest with your buddies. But once they leave, I feel your time is better spent getting to know your wedges and short irons. Sure, I'm going to practice long irons/hybrids but I'm certainly not at a point of dialing in those clubs... After 4 years and 2 index albeit.

Now chipping and putting, whole different game and I've not decided on how to practice that indoors.

tamu2009, what is a good way to contact you? I would be interested in inquiring about the Mevo+. I have a 12 year old daughter who plays competitively and I would like something I can dial her distances in, get an idea of club head speed from time to time, and the path of the club. I don't have the space or ceiling height to put this indoor so I am looking at something I could take to the range to get some data from her range sessions. Maybe at her age the Mevo+ would be too much and maybe I just need the Mevo, but I think worth looking into because it is something she could grow into and not outgrow (at least not anytime soon). I know some basic metrics would be of tremendous use to us. My understanding is the Mevo+ excels outdoors because you have to have space behind the ball so I imagine a good choice for taking to the range. Apologies if I slightly derailed the thread.

Look at your daughter's ball speed and not so much the clubhead speed.

Thanks for the advice and will do. One thing I have a very hard time with is carry distance. I know how far she can hit each club in total distance but I'm not so great at judging carry distances. We are playing courses more and more frequently where we have to account for some hazard we have to carry for, e.g. a bunker we have to carry, a creek running across the fairway, things like that, in those instances having a really good idea how far each club carries would be invaluable to us.

Simulator will definitely identify the carry distance. On skytrak, I set it to soft condition with no wind and correct altitude. And I only measure the carry distance but pay attention to the roll out. I do pay attention to apex and the angle of descent as they contribute to the roll out.

Once you identify your daughter's carry distance, maybe you will discuss with her for the front pin, add a few yards, center pin, play the distance, and the back pin with death behind the green, take off a few yards on approaches.

I chose a retractable system because I felt there might always be another use for the space, no matter how large it is. My space doubles as my exercise room. The SportScreen sells giant roller systems, including both manual wind and motorized. They sell a combined 3 screen system that raises and lowers all three screens at the touch of a button. I have an Optima projector. As far as a launch monitor, can you spend $3,000 to $20,000? Sure. But are you a PGA professional that relies on that last 1% of accuracy? I bought a Garmin R10 for $600. I have plenty of space behind my ball for a Doppler system. It's accurate for my ball striking and I have access to numerous courses through Garmin, E6 and other vendors.

Absolute Game Changer.

Three high speed cameras as accurate as any system.
Gaming and graphics computer built in.
10 inch touch screen for both input and watching results.
43,000 courses world wide.

Yes, it's $5,000, but with it, a hitting mat and a net you really don't need anything else. But of course you can plug in into your projector. I'm already saving my pennies.

I'd be very leery of buying anything Garmin with their history of abandoning support for products. You will also still need to have a separate PC for something like GSPro, which would be far better than Garmin's integrated software.

Right now a Skytrak+ is $2,500. Add a decent gaming pc at $800 and GSPro for $250 a month and you're still ahead of the Garmin.

Even options like the Eye Mini Lite and Bushnell will have you ahead of the Garmin if you intend to use GSPro.

I have a Garmin R 10 and think it's great, No problems at all. Except Home Tee Hero on it is very cartoonish. I also have an MLM2 Pro. Their built in courses are better. The rendering on the R 50 is far superior to the R10. I use my iPad Pro for Awesome golf and E6, but honestly if the club data is accurate, I wouldn't use third party software. I don't care if I can see every leaf on a tree. I just want the data on the range to be accurate and to be able to play my home courses in the winter.

I had the R10 and used it with GSPro. It's extremely immersive, low cost ($250/yr) and has a ton of free user built courses in high detail. I ditched the R10 because of it's terrible chipping reads and went to an OG Skytrak. Loved it and it also works with GSPro. About to jump to a Uneekor Eye Mini Lite which is now on sale for $1,700. It's a fantastic deal too right now and even better than the Skytrak.

The chipping is one of the reasons I bought the MLM pro. But the R50 is camera based.so it also does putting.
I have a friend that I helped set up his simulator room after I did mine. He just bought a Uneekor Mini and a gaming PC.

I have a full 13 X10 screen in an enclosed room that works well. My only regret is I wish I had bought a more powerful projector, because I have to have the lights off.

I don't have anything to add on this new Garmin R50 but I can definitely tell you what to do and not to do on full blown stupidity level…

Uneekor eye xo and full built in.

I'm building a cheap one out for my 10 year old for Christmas.

Everyone she plays with and/or against lives near and are members of golf clubs. We live in town in Houston and don't have the ability to take the golf cart to the range or practice green like they do. We're working around the practice green with a nice inside putting matt and a nice outdoor chipping matt and chipping targets for the backyard. We've been hitting birdie balls weekly, but I think it's time for a garage solution she could use multiple times a week without dragging everything out and losing birdie balls down the gutter.

We don't have the budget for something high or even medium end, so here's what i'm thinking after doing some research. Maybe upgrade things here and there along the way down the road. I have all in my Amazon list so hopefully can catch some black Friday or Christmas deals. Or watch for something better that does (projector or hitting screen).

Rapsodo MLM2Pro $700
It can be the garage launch monitor with built in driving range, games, and sim play without needing a PC. It can also go to the range and give live feedback as well when working with a swing coach.

Golf Simulator Cage with impact screen and side netting $700

Its basic, but should be fine for now.

ViewSonic PS502X 4000 Lumens XGA HDMI Short Throw Projector $500
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BY93686L/?coliid=I33H5NH2ION02O&colid=3DERGBYPVMHZ8&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it
Cheapest I can find that has short throw, connectivity needed, and should work with listed lumens.

Already purchased

0.6" EVA Foam Rubber Flooring Tiles for 100sq/ft on sale for $180
Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ Plus 11" 128GB Android Tablet on sale for $200

All in hoping to be $2,500. We looked into something about a year and a half ago and that number for something similar was $5K. Technology has made it much more affordable. Not to mention a tablet can power everything with the Rapsodo in addition to Awesome Golf and E6.

Welcome to feedback. Square is out because you can't use it outside. R10 for reasons listed above.

My Golf Spy has a write-up on the new Garmin- G50

I go to golftec (who owns skytrak) and personally would not want it at the house. Way too many times it does not pick-up the shot. I like the fact the G50 has a built in screen so all you need is a net.

Mevo+ is worth looking at. Higher initial cost than the MLM2Pro but less ongoing membership costs. Upgradable to get more club data later on too

Though I think you'd need an iPad to take advantage of the free E6 courses. But recently they added more courses. I think it's a 10 pack now with Pebble and St. Andrews included.

I can do E6 and Awesome Golf through Rapsodo. Plus Rapsodo has their own courses.

And the subscription doesn't really factor in to me. Rapsodo is already offering a one time discounted subscription if I choose to go that route. But honestly, in 3 years the technology will probably allow for a cheap upgrade anyway. So I don't see any way to justify the Mevo+, additional cost, or equipment. Rapsodo is still only $1,200 with a lifetime subscription. Still well under Mevo+.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes but you still have to pay for E6 correct?

Mevo+ is routinely on sale for around $1750 and includes the E6 bundle. A couple of years of E6 subscription and it's about the same. Just saying there's a break even point in there somewhere and it's worth looking at.

MLM newest update to their sim could make it all moot. New graphics are pretty good. Not E6 good but getting there.
AgLA06

I'd rather worry about a potential break even point several years down the road. If anything, the Mevo+ taking 3-4 years to break even when it will probably be obsolete at that point is a negative to me.

I would heavily encourage you to go with an OG skytrak over the MLM or even the Mevo if in a garage. Those radar units need a lot of space and can do weird things in garages. Skytrak is camera based and it reads chips well. I had one and liked it. OG skytrak are on sale for $900 new now or can be had used for around $700.

I did pull the trigger on the Uneekor Mini Lite. At $1799 it's probably the best value out there at the moment.

I agree with this. Uneekor is also the easiest to set up with GSPro which is by far the best to play courses on and join tournaments.

Haven't seen anything but the opposite. I have more than the required room between the screen and ball and ball to the rapsodo. I'll also have rubber flooring and a green moving blanket down.

I also have no interest in a gaming PC or third party apps to start out.
