I was just about to post that I don't think I've ever seen the greens look as bad as they do from what I've seen on the coverage so far. Don't remember them ever having brown patches before. Haven't seen much of the pre-tourney coverage - was there mention of the condition of them other than being firm ?

Yes, plenty of pre-tourney discussion about the greens. Don't worry about the color. Doesn't mean the greens aren't in fantastic shape. They're trying to stay right on the edge and make the course difficult, especially with the rain chances tomorrow and Saturday afternoon that could green/soften em up a little bit.

Some of the approach shots are bouncing very hard so I think they are good shape. I don't want a -17 to win either, needs to be around par for the masters.

Early action suggesting that the course is playing more difficult than last year. Last year's first round average was 71.41 which was the lowest in history. So far today, twice as many players are over par than under, and by more strokes.
