An immediate family member of mine recently had an off course run in with Reed and his wife.

Let's just say they weren't getting the preferential treatment they thought they were entitled to and were making a big scene. They even dropped the 'Do you know who we are?' line.

So that's I know they're both a-holes.

I find it odd Bubba is the most disliked yet some of his closest friends are guys like Fowler, Ben crane, and Aaron Baddely who are considered some of the nicest.

I know that universally Rory Sabbatini is pretty hated but I have the opportunity to play with him 4 or 5 times and my brother (Aggie369) played with him dozens of times if not more. He's one of the nicest guys Ive met. He trash talks in a funny way and was fun to play with. It may be completely different while playing on Tour but I always liked the guy.

Some of the allegations have been:

Expelled from Georgia program, some drinking issues on top of bad golf behavior.

Reed was accused of cheating on the course by claiming an opponent's ball when it was in a better position, and allegedly stole a $400 putter from his teammates.

Notoriety followed him, however, and within weeks at Augusta he had been suspended for an unspecified 'violation of team rules.'

Reed was again accused of cheating by declaring lower scores than he had actually shot, and was reportedly so unpopular with teammates that they wanted him out.

The same year saw Reed in hot water for using a homophobic slur while ranting to himself during an event in Shanghai.

After shooting a bogey on the first hole, television microphones picked up Reed saying 'nice f****** three-putt, you f****** f****t', for which he later apologized. Although I guess he was talking to himself?

He kind of seems like a golf dick but then again he wouldn't be the first one.

Everyone who has ever played golf has done this at least once.

Awesome moment, and honestly, professional golf needs a bit more mma trash talking crap if we hope to keep this game alive.

It's not necessarily my preference, but if it continues to be seen as the game for stuck up boring rich white guys PGA is gonna die on the vine.

I think its slightly weird that you're expected to be good friends with the guys you're competing against every week.

Family life: don't care.

College life: dont care

He sounds like an ass as an adult and just like tiger, I dont care.

The article in the OP is damning regarding the "stories and allegations" swirling around. It's pretty clear to me as a parent that his momma sized up this older girl he was about to marry and didn't think it was "best for Patrick", and it was a fateful and fatal mistake. That's the sad part about this whole drama, and makes me doubt Reed's judgement, and suspect it'll come back to haunt him at some point. He's a very talented golfer (which I admire), but also a jerk and a pr/ck, which I do not. And that's all there is to it. I suspect some posting on this thread might have that in common with him.

You sure are casting a lot of aspersions based off things you know very few details about (and neither do the rest of us).

But yeah, please lecture others on the thread about being *****s

How does expressing my opinion (as you have done plenty of, including criticizing those of others-fair game btw) constitute "lecturing "? Methinks you protest too much.

Now, what's that old saying about "the guilty dog barks?"

Interesting - I had a completely different experience with him a few months back. We were both waiting for food at a restaurant and he saw my six year old in a golf hat and came over and talked to him, was really down to earth and just super friendly. I honestly didn't like him before that based on everything I heard and completely changed my opinion on him from that interaction.

The accusation that the parents viewed him as a meal ticket is strange. They paid huge sums for him growing up and his father is a well off exec.

Maybe the wife is projecting...

Also had a very good experience with Patrick at the Colonial a few years back. My daughter got to caddy for him on a par 3 as part of the first tee program. Based on his rep I wasn't sure what to expect. Especially after we witnessed some other players be Less than enthusiastic to have the kids around. Quite the opposite for Reed, my daughter was/is a little shy and he really did a great job making her feel comfortable. He was very good with her, included her in the process and helped her line up her putt (he hit the t shot and she putted it for him). After the hole he came over, took pictures, exchanged pleasantries and signed a ball for her. Overall I was really surprised, for all the bad press he seemed like a really good dude. Maybe he just has more on an affinity/soft spot for kids than adults. Who knows.

Needless to say, In our house we pull for Mr.Reed and were happy to see him win the Masters.

Sad that the family can't work this out.
This article is probably more accurate than the above.
Sounds like his wife may be the issue in all this. May not have been completely accepted by his parents (initially) and they urged him to wait to marry which put her off and turned her against them and Patrick against them.

I like him and wish him well.

He went to high school in Baton Rouge so a few posters on tiger drippings played against him and went to high school with him. General dislike for him. But a few said his Dad was not a good person. Regularly berated him for his performance and physically assaulted him on occasion after a bad round.

Honestly - if I was a teenager and my dad beat me and berated me for my golf performances I would find it hard to be a good person playing golf too.

Heresay. The same can likely be said about a lot of fathers, unfairly. Gotta be careful how things can get "all out of whack" whenever repeated enough times. It's the essence of gossip (which, btw, TexAgs is notorious for)! I can believe his dad was hard (even abusive) on him, but from the looks of his mama, I doubt it was excessive. She's got the countenance of pure sweetness, and I'd be willing to bet a lot of money she's the victim of a "scorned" daughter in law.

Apparently the girlfriend now wife is a gold digger and she and her family are really controlling

The stuff about Dad seems more true than not. Guy even posted a text message exchange from his sister who dated PR in high school. She said he and the Dad got into fights. Also said his Mother and Sister were great people.

I'm thinking there is plenty if blame to go around in that family

I'm not sure where the "second hand sources" are coming from. It's a specific teammate stating very precisely that Patrick Reed cheated on several occasions. And he stole cash and golf clubs. And several specific teammates have confirmed it.

And the reason you "don't get to hear Patrick Reed's side of the story"? It's because he refuses to speak about it to this day.

I'm sure he's a jerk. I don't care.

His cheating and theft allegations are just that, allegations.

His college coaches (at UGA and Augusta State) have denied any knowledge of cheating or theft. Him berating himself after a poor shot doesn't shock me.

Today's pros don't seem to think too poorly of him. He doesn't cheat now. We would obviously know that.

He is likely an arrogant ass. Who cares? Enjoy his game, he's a great golfer.
Untrue. The assistant coach at Georgia, Jason Payne confirmed the allegations are in fact true. He is in fact a cheater.

Reed is too immature at this point to realize anyone who would encourage/demand the estrangement of him from his parents/family is not looking out for his best interests. Hopefully, he'll figure it out before it's too late. For his sake, and that if his suffering parents/sister, I sure hope so.

I'll never be able to feel good about him and his golf so long as that situation remains static. Sad!

A lot of these guys are dicks, a few of them maybe always don't get along with members of their family. But, when they have been accused for cheating - it takes time for that to go away. Vijay Signh was accused, even Mark OMeara had some doubters. Today they are pretty highly regarded statesman for the game of Golf. Not sure yet about P Reed, but he can damn sure play.

I would rather hear a story, and give value to it, where someone on this forum had a DIRECT interaction with the guy vs "a family member told me he wasn't nice in public."

Thanks for sharing.

Edit: What is sad in this story is that his parents have not gotten to meet their grandkids yet. For whatever reason (family v family), that is truly sad as that time is gone and cannot be replaced.

My dad and I had a falling out which last a couple of years. We are humans, we are all sinners and we all fall short. Hope their is re-connection there and forgiveness.

None of you know dick about what has gone on between him, his wife, and his parents. You're embarrassing yourselves by even pretending to know or by gobbling up some one-sided BS that is fit for a soap opera. There is only one thing that is certain -> family **** is complicated and the truth is pretty much always somehere in the middle.

And again, it's a shame a grown man can achieve something great, and the entire aftermath is a character scorecard and tear down while we sit in judgment on whether he is worthy. Says a lot more about everyone else than it does him.

I'm a member there. Reed practices at the Tournament Course, which is where I usually play and have a locker (his is there too). I've never noticed this, but no way of knowing if it's true or not. When I see him there, he's with his caddy and coach, Kevin Kirk. He keeps to himself. Jonathan Vegas is a member there too, and seems to interact more with others.

From where I sit, it seems to me like his wife is one of those types that is extremely controlling and possessive. I think someone else hit the nail on the head when they said that elsewhere on this thread. She's from around here, went to Klein Forest High School. It wouldn't surprise me if she has some "psycho ex girlfriend" stories about her from past boyfriends.
