So my buddy who plays professionally just called me after he was able to do a 3D Mapping of swing. His golf coach just did this same analysis with Luke Donald last week. The 3D stuff is more for body mechanics and how everything works or doesn't work together then shows you how your body physically compensates. While doing this they can look at the golf swings that are more consistent so they know what track man data to look at and which swings weren't as good.

Anyway-- Luke Donald did his with the titleist ball he plays and my buddy did his with basic range balls because he was only look8ng at body mechanics not ball flight. These swings are done with a wedge and 30 yard pitch shots. Luke Donald spins the ball more than my buddy and was around 6,000 rpms on his 30 yard shots. My buddy doing same swings with a wedge at 30 yards with a basic range ball had about 5400 RPMs. So between two different sides of the spectrum of balls and two professional golfers there was a 600 rpm difference.

10% on a driver is maybe only 280-300 RPMs on a good launching ball with correct spin

I'd imagine there is a much greater difference than that on driver....I would think probably 20% between a range ball and a prov1x....closer to 600rpms on a drive no?

I may do a test on my SkyTrak. ProV1, Kirkland and then a Pinnacle or similar.

Call it 7% for an average....I figured there would be a bigger difference than the lowest quality ball possible and the best than 7-8% on perfectly struck Golf balls. That means when they absolutely flush it there is only 7-8% difference between range ball and top end titleist....I thought it would be higher. This isn't 8% less distance....just RPMs

No way it was range balls from the range I frequent. Those things have been beat to hell and I will sometimes hit the occasional zig zaggling knuckler ball.

I really think the reason the vast majority of Prov1 loyalists use the ball is because of feel/sound and/or as a status symbol. That would never justify dropping the $48 for 12 of them to me, but it, and certain other comparable balls, do instill confidence for me. There are a few balls that just feel/sound great when hitting them flush. But the difference in roll out between a Prov1 and a mid-line budget ball to a mid-handicapper (who regularly hits pure iron shots from 160 in but struggles more in a few other areas of the game) is likely negligible...maybe a few yards. That could just as easily help me as hurt me because I don't have the consistency of a pro and sometimes I go too long or too short.

Honestly I really don't know. I'm not sure what spin rate would check a 30 yard shot up and what would release it. It just sounded to me like a lot of difference at 10%. I would think that would be a pretty dramatic difference when looking at how a ball reacts, especially on fast greens or in windy conditions. But like I said I really don't know.

Used to play pro v 1's a lot but switched to the NXT tour and haven't looked back. Distance is good as well as feel. May check these Costco balls out.

I would think the would restrict it to members-only before they'd pull em completely. I'm going to call their customer service when I get out of the dr. Will report back w/ findings

They would save a ton of money by only selling them online. No reason to ship them all over the US.

I went in their store with coworker's card to check for the balls a few weeks ago and actually thought about joining...not just for the golf balls and cheap golf glove 3-packs, but they actually have some pretty good stuff in there. If they can keep these balls stocked and not jack up the price to much it may push me over the edge towards joining. I had never been in a Costco other than to get a few quick slices of pizza up front...and their pizza is surprisingly good btw. Some of the best I've had in a while, maybe ever (not kidding).

My point = eliminate online purchases...drive traffic to the stores...and make the ball a members only offering.

It's the same thing they do with the Rotisserie chickens for $4.99 (which they lose ~$40MM/year on).

Costco sells them as a loss leader to drive memberships and in-store traffic.

...sidenote...those chickens are some of the best tasting chickens around,
