No way it was range balls from the range I frequent. Those things have been beat to hell and I will sometimes hit the occasional zig zaggling knuckler ball.
I really think the reason the vast majority of Prov1 loyalists use the ball is because of feel/sound and/or as a status symbol. That would never justify dropping the $48 for 12 of them to me, but it, and certain other comparable balls, do instill confidence for me. There are a few balls that just feel/sound great when hitting them flush. But the difference in roll out between a Prov1 and a mid-line budget ball to a mid-handicapper (who regularly hits pure iron shots from 160 in but struggles more in a few other areas of the game) is likely negligible...maybe a few yards. That could just as easily help me as hurt me because I don't have the consistency of a pro and sometimes I go too long or too short.
