Got a question back at the OP, have you averaged more wives than tech has average wins the past couple years?

That's something I always wondered about, too, but don't remember that with Steve Sloan. I remembered he left for Ole Miss but not being ran out, unless I'm forgetting something (I was a kid at the time).

I personally know several different graduates of the different academies. They are all extremely respectful and measured in the speech and actions - even with those with whom they disagree. I guess it comes with the responsibility of leading others into battle. This applies to other officers that didn't attend one of the other academies. You are very different from them. And I don't mean that in a good way.
I know this topic is about Tech football. It literally only took 6 replies before the name calling began. Psychologists tell us that when someone puts down others all the time it reveals deep seated insecurity and jealousy on their part. It's great to be proud of your school. The arrogance and put downs of others is just sad frankly and reveals more about your own character than the object of your scorn.
My son's best friend played football at aTm. Great guy. Doesn't have the arrogance that many aTm people exhibit. Does that make him a 2%er? Never puts others down. He's just a great guy with upstanding character. Some of you should try it sometime.

If you actually want to talk Tech football then fine. I''l bite. Here's a little tidbit that relates to both schools. Kliff made Sumlin successful at both UH and aTm. He has a great offensive mind. When he left aTm, Sumlin became much less of a coach. Kliff's problem, and he admits it, is that he didn't like to recruit. He will do well in the pros where there is not that responsibility. aTm has been very successful post Sumlin in building recruiting up to a high level. Tech is still trying to get there. I know a lot of coaches and they all say that it is still largely about the players. Coaching matters but you need the players to compete at the highest levels consistently.

Bruh, I'm a tech fan. I have a close loved one who attends now, and I really like the school. See my post about actual football earlier.

Speaking of arrogance I wonder if we can get our own TV channel that would only be accessible by a fraction of anyone's fan base making it very difficult for the fans of visiting teams to see their game with us? Also make it impossible for the conference to get a decent media deal.
Then maybe set up a permanent home game on Thanksgiving weekend and totally job whoever we select to play us that weekend.
Then maybe set up uneven revenue sharing on media money and make sure schools like TT get shafted.
And what I really want to think about is having a number of football refs on our payroll. Maybe have a few live in Austin, but make sure to only reference the burb they live in though as that will be enough to fool the idiots. Maybe have one actively taunt other teams online in their own forums.
Just thinking of all the things we could do to TT if we stayed in the big12.

Now that I'm retired I have the time to play around. I know you don't believe me but I take this stuff as a kind of fun exercise. It's fun to poke an Aggie and see it's reaction. You may find this interesting or not. I think it's kinda funny. I have a friend whose daughter went to aTm. She loved it so much that she got "red ass" tattooed inside her lower lip. She said a lot of the freshman girls were getting them. Said it was a henna tattoo and they told her it would fade away. It was a year later and it hadn't faded at all. I was in healthcare so she asked me what I thought. I told her if it hadn't faded at all in a year it may be permanent. I told her she better marry another Aggie because I don't know how she would able to explain that to anyone else. Told this story to a friend of mine who played football at aTm and is a retired Navy SEAL. He immediately got on his phone and called his daughter who was a freshman at aTm and asked her about if this was true. She asked him how he knew about that. She said she had considered getting one but decided not to. He told her that was a very good decision.

My daughter graduated from both UT and UTSW. Told her that I loved her but I could never wear burnt orange or any of the logos. She understood.

TBAT needs the conference to stay together as long as possible. The PAC would be a terrible fit culturally. The socialists who run the PAC don't care about sports.
TBAT's problem is that they want a coach who fits in, but expect 8 wins annually. That may have been reasonable in 2009, but not now. I bet part of the reason they hired Wells was b/c they were still paying Kliff and could not afford someone better.
They did not learn. Wells was signed to a reasonable annual rate, but he is locked in for 6 years. I had real questions about Wells. He inherited a decent team, had success the first 2 years, struggled for 3, then had another big year. A big part of that was Jordan Love. Wells has ZERO ties to TX. That is critical, since they must recruit locally to succeed.
The biggest problem- underdogs have a few choices (besides cheating hard):
1. Hire coaches who fit in and accept mediocrity (Illinois, Cal)
2. Be really good at evaluating coaching talent and be prepared to hire a new coach every 2-3 years
(Louisville for a long time, Boise, etc)
3. Decide which warts/limitations are tolerable and hire someone the bigs dont want (Iowa, tcu, Navy, KState)

It's weird to me that I love college football but can't name the Texas Tech or Baylor head coach.
Matt Wells isn't a household name but Dave Aranda sort of is.
