She said almost, cupcake. In the last 45 years (that would be the almost part) your t-shirt team has won exactly 1 national championship.
The correct answer is 2 if we're using 45 years as the mark...Just FYI

The elitist of the elite.

Fans are used to winning championships

They expect championships

0 top 5 finishes

0 top 10 finishes

0 top 15 finishes

0 BCS/playoff appearances

2 losing seasons

Looks like a standard has been set

Doug English played under Dkr in the SWC. His final season at utx was 1974. Like most older sips, he dreams of a return to that 1960-1974 time period....lol.

Not if one of those includes the year tu lost to Notre Dame in the bowl game. You can't claim a MNC if you lost your bowl game. You just cant. Sorry.

And this from Wiki:

Texas teams have also been selected as national champions in six other years (1918, 1930, 1945, 1947, 1950, 2008) by various nationally published ratings systems or voters which are not recognized by the University or the NCAA.
Can anyone point to me the publication that ranked Texas #1 in 2008? They lost to Tech. Was that Alcade?

In 2008, Oklahoma and Texas were embattled in a jockeying to be ranked higher in the BCS. The team ranked highest in the BCS would break a three-way tie atop the Big 12 south, advance to the Big 12 title game, and, with a win there, to the national championship.

The polling was so close that every vote in the Coaches and Harris polls counted. Every vote mattered.

And Baylor coach Art Briles strangely voted Oklahoma No. 1 and had Texas all the way down at No. 5, even though the Longhorns defeated the Sooners head-to-head.
Remember this???

Head-to-head results didn't mean quite as much to Briles in 2008 as they did in 2014. Karma can be a merciless b****, sometimes.

Of course you can. Remember, in the 70's the national champions were always named BEFORE the bowl games were played. So Texas was the legitimate national champion that year.

Only the UPI poll did that back then.

The AP ranked teams after bowls, and they ranked undefeated and untied Nebraska, who won their bowl game, as #1.

That's why everyone outside your stupid fan base considers Nebraska the 1970 NC.

Unfortunately, your facts are incorrect. Nebraska was 11-0-1 that year. Texas was recognized as the national champion by one of the two major publications at that time. So while the national championship was SPLIT (a common occurrence in those days), they were still NATIONAL CHAMPIONS...Just FYI

You're the one that claimed all national champs were crowned before the bowl games. The fact Nebraska tied a game is rather inconsequential in this argument, which you lost. Now after being proven wrong, or at least hoping no one would call your BS, you've moved the goal posts to reflect the split title aspect, which while correct, is also inconsequential, because Nebraska has more claim to the 1970 NC than tu.

Of course your entitled to that opinion. But the fact is Texas, not Nebraska was the only undefeated and untied team going into the bowl game. So the fact that the major publication chose the only team with an unblemished record at that point gives Texas just as much claim to the national championship as Nebraska. So the goalpost are only being moved by you...

Not by the nonpartisan AP. The coaches in the coach's poll did so occasionally to curry favor with certain coaches (or Presidents).

Nebraska was undefeated, beat #5 LSU in Orange Bowl and was the only rightful winner of a MNC in 1970. Texas received the UPI MNC despite losing to #6 Notre Dame 24-11 and Ohio State received the NFF MNC despite losing their bowl game to Stanford.
