I am second generation Irish-American; Notre Dame must change their nickname and get rid of that little leprechaun mascot on the sideline; I am offended. If you disagree then you must be a racist bigot; you'd want me to be hauled off in the paddy wagon. You are an Irishophobe! Bigot!

The funny part is that SCOTUS made the whole thing a moot point not long after and basically told the trademark office to go **** itself, yet here we are.

I think a lot of people on this board would think that a team with a name like the Wetb*cks, Spics, Negroes, etc..., would be okay.

The team was originally named the braves. Boston Braves. They changed their name to differentiate themselves from the Boston Braves baseball team. This wasn't an attempt to honor anyone.

Just because you accept it as a team name doesn't make it right.

Many of you would have accepted A&M as a segregated campus. Just because it was segregated for many years doesn't make it right. Maybe your relatives accepted a segregated A&M.

The Patebt Office isn't saying that they don't have the right to the name. They just won't allow them to trademark the name. A business decision (free market) will force the change.

This is the correct decision.

Many people disagree with decisions when they are first made. They evolve and eventually agree.

Many Texans didn't agree with the end of slavery, Brown vs. Board, or the end if segregation when the government or courts ruled on these issues and they became reality.

This was the correct decision.
And we called those people Democrats.

This is nothing more than one more victory for the socialist agenda in this country.

Actually, what he was referring to got overturned by the Supreme Court. The trademark office said they wouldn't allow an offensive trademark like Redskins. In an unrelated case involving an Asian-American band can't themselves, "The Slants," SCOTUS said, "The **** you won't. Get back in your place, paper pushers."

Still upset knowing that the logo was designed by a native American and his grandson has come out and said it was a sense of pride seeing it well represented across the US?

So two native Americans approve of it that are known.
The designer of the logo and his grandson.

Well, then... i guess no other Native Americans need to have an opinion.

Apropos of nothing, I suggest all of you Native American lovers read J. W. Wilbarger's "Indian Depredations in Texas" and get back to me after you do. The dearth of detailed historical knowledge in the cancel culture is appalling. Many of you would do well to remember the wisdom of Abe Lincoln who stated words to the effect that he would rather keep his mouth shut and have people think he was ignorant than open it and remove all doubt.

This is patently absurd. Do you think they picked the name because they thought it was an insult? If you're really that dense, there's no point discussing the issue.

I don't believe this country has 100 more years of existence. Too much of what's important is being lost too soon. Democracy doesn't work when the population is primarily ignorant and immoral or amoral. I fear the percentages are turning against what's good for the country.
