Glad this happened.
I think a lot of people on this board would think that a team with a name like the Wetb*cks, Spics, Negroes, etc..., would be okay.
The team was originally named the braves. Boston Braves. They changed their name to differentiate themselves from the Boston Braves baseball team. This wasn't an attempt to honor anyone.
Just because you accept it as a team name doesn't make it right.
Many of you would have accepted A&M as a segregated campus. Just because it was segregated for many years doesn't make it right. Maybe your relatives accepted a segregated A&M.
The Patebt Office isn't saying that they don't have the right to the name. They just won't allow them to trademark the name. A business decision (free market) will force the change.
This is the correct decision.
Many people disagree with decisions when they are first made. They evolve and eventually agree.
Many Texans didn't agree with the end of slavery, Brown vs. Board, or the end if segregation when the government or courts ruled on these issues and they became reality.
This was the correct decision.
And we called those people Democrats.
This is nothing more than one more victory for the socialist agenda in this country.
Actually, what he was referring to got overturned by the Supreme Court. The trademark office said they wouldn't allow an offensive trademark like Redskins. In an unrelated case involving an Asian-American band can't themselves, "The Slants," SCOTUS said, "The **** you won't. Get back in your place, paper pushers."
