I actually like that house quite a bit but the front elevation isn't great.

Great lot. Needs some paint inside.

Yeah, I have no objections to the house, and it is a fantastic lot. I just nearly choked when I saw the price!

I feel like production builders generally put no thought/effort into their elevations. Whe we were looking up north, that was my biggest gripe.

With most builders, your choices were: ugly brick, painted brick, add some stucco, add some cement board, add some stone, all of the above.

Toll Bros and Gracepoint had some decent looks, but that was about it.

These will never get old to me. I think this may be the tallest front steps yet.

I don't like cabinets around the range - I cook a lot with high heat and they'd get a lot of grease on them. I actually prefer minimal upper cabinets altogether. We plastered our hood - I definitely don't consider it a focal point, but it's pretty functional (easy to wipe down) and clean looking.

I thought Darling was doing some decent elevations - French country and sort of Spanish style. But that's gone out of style in favor of these types of elevations.

They are building another elevation in my hood that is off market and it is absolutely hideous and fronts the main subdivision road. I cringe every time I drive past it.

Edit: Taylor Morrison bought Darling. But all the Toll Bros houses in my hood are ugly and look like a bad cross between mid-century and modern farmhouse (mid-century modern farmhouse?)

Do those steps lead to the entryway or the attic?

I do like a nice plastered hood. Especially if the range is set back in a little alcove all to itself. Most kitchens can't accommodate that, though.

Somehow I've managed to keep my cabinets reasonably clean. They have some smudges, but they aren't discolored or dingy. Problem is, cream colored cabinets have kind of grown on me. I can't imagine going back to dark wood, even though it hides a multitude of flaws.

Can they not afford to put pulls/knobs on their cabinets? I don't get it. Those houses are horrible for a variety of reasons.

Oh, yeah, that's another "trend" that's become popular here the last 5-7 years. I HATE it! All I can think of is how dirty those cabinets will be after being opened with food-covered fingers. The only time cabinets with no hardware look good, is when they are really high end and the "pulls" are integrated into the doors. Those just look like cheap cabinets that the builder couldn't even bother to install pulls on to make them look slightly less cheap.

This is similar to the elevation I drive past in my 'hood that makes me cringe. What's worse, is it's on a circle drive with about 6 other homes that are all in the brick/French country style that Darling did so well. Then there is this stucco modern monstrosity right on the corner.

I don't know who this baller is in my backyard. It's gated so I've never even been in the neighborhood.

I will say that I've had a recurring nightmare for years about having to shoot baskets in a room with a low ceiling.

My cabinets don't have any knobs or pulls. We've been in our house for over 15 years and our kitchen cabinets look almost new. However, I'm fastidious about keeping them clean and touching up any scuffs (they are finished wood so I can just uses matching stain marker if they get a little scuff).

I don't understand people who become blind to their own filth. My walls could use paint, but you can't tell that it's the original paint and that I have three kids in their teens who have grown up here. It's amazing what simply wiping down as wall with a damp cloth will do to get rid of smudges.

Before I could stop my wife, she picked pulls and knobs that weren't round. As predicted, I routinely have to go around tightening them because unlike round ones, they go sideways when they are loose.

Same here, but not because my cabinets don't have pulls - because they are cream. I can't stand to see dirt or spills on them, and I have my son trained to clean up after himself.

And I agree about the paint. I lived in a house for 6 years with an infant/toddler, and the paint only needed to be touched up when we moved out. It did not need a whole paint job.

Mine have square pulls and it drives me nuts when they are crooked.

I much prefer pulls for the most part. Have a few knobs, but not many. They shouldn't come loose much, not sure why you're having that
TXTransplant

So, my doors are pressed board and the bases are cheap, thin plywood. A lot of the holes, especially where the hinges are attached, are stripped. I don't think any of the holes for the pulls are stripped, but it doesn't take much for them to become just loose enough to be askew. It's an easy fix with a screwdriver, but not an issue at all if you have round pulls!

This thread has completely jumped the shark. Instead of making fun of ridiculously bad houses, we are critiquing the most minor of aspects on normal houses that 99.9% of prospective homebuyers would never notice or have issue with.

I agree, so let's get it back on track.

Also, I don't find this "floorplan" all that informative. I guess I should be impressed this house had a plan at all...

This is one of my recent favorites. Was built in 2008 but can't say I've ever seen that style of exterior. Sad thing is it's clearly part of the neighborhood theme based on the other houses in the background.
