Everyone knows square turrets are the way to go. If you're going to pour boiling lead on someone stealing your tv, at least have a turret that properly defends your flanks as you dump the liquid.

Just checked my HOA covenants. Firstly, I must get a permit approved at a once a month meeting for any permanent structure. Hopefully there aren't any sieges in April. Secondly, if I use my neighbors fence posts in the creation of the structure, the fence posts must remain unpainted with nothing else hanging on them (no decorative baskets). Finally, if I put either a flag or a solar panel on the trebuchet, the HOA can't do jack about my trebuchet.

That's clear. Even if merely decorative, the scale of architectural details need to make sense relative to other, related architectural details.

It's like a grand Greek revival home with 4 columns or front so skinny they look like broom handles. Scale matters.
