Has anyone used Kurk Homes to build a custom house? I would love to hear anyone's experience. My wife and are leaning towards using them for our first home.

We decided to go with them after hearing several positive reviews elsewhere and touring the model home. Chris McGinley, the vice president, has been great to work with so far. I will certainly keep y'all updated as construction progresses. Right now we are waiting to hear back about a lot we made an offer on.

I would like to hear about cost overruns and how close they get to their actual stated price on the website (if you are choosing one of the plans shown), ignoring any known upgrade costs you have.

I am a family friend and think highly of Chris and his company. You should have a great experience. I would encourage anyone to give him a call, he has an infectiously funny personality.

Mneisch - any updates on how the home building is going with Kurk Homes

Thanks for bumping this. Despite the fact that construction hasn't actually started, it is going great. We had a major set back with the initial lot we intended to build on where basically the whole thing flooded (http://mobile.texags.com/Forums/34/Topics/2117067). Chris was super helpful in helping us get out of that contract and into a new one on an even better piece of property. Communication is great, and we are moving full steam ahead now. Seeing the way they have handled our issues so far is very comforting. Hopefully concert is poured in the next few weeks and I can give some better feedback on the construction process.

ttt - any updates/pictures of how things are coming?

Lot is cleared and currently being prepped for foundation. So far everything is going smoothly. Chris has been able to answer any questions/concerns in a timely manner as well. Any more updates? Specifically related to my cost overrun question from before. I'm getting a little more serious about buying a lot and sitting on it for a little while if they will be at their stated price. Also, can you list out the upgrades that you picked and what the base was that you upgraded from, and then the additional those upgrades wound up costing?

Time for the final update. We just closed on our house yesterday. While there were ups and downs, as I would expect with any home builder, I would absolutely recommend Kurk Homes to anyone looking to build. All in all it was a fantastic experience and we ended up with a home we really love. Construction quality is great and we couldn't be happier.

My brother in law just built a custom home in high meadow estates...off Jack Rd. I really like the area for being outside the city but still close enough to restaurants/groceries/schools etc.
