Probably a good hire for them, but I am surprised that Harris did not make the cut for the final 2.

I and the fan base were pulling for her maybe she stays on the new staff or she will probably end up with Vic.

I have seen it in business and I have seen it in athletics especially at TAMU. The word is leadership. The AD has not been here long enough but he needs to pay attention. I do not care what a coach did years ago but I do care about current trends and our WBB is not trending well. We waited too long on Sumlin due to a dumb contract. Same for Kennedy and his illness is a tragedy. The greatest comparison is what Jeff Immelt did to GE over a period of 20 years. The board had their heads up their colon. Look up the meaning of the word leadership. Those traits are what I expect from all our coaches and administrators. After all we pay top dollar.

False. Two S16s with one of the best players in the nation is the opposite of poor trending.

You keep at it but your approach condemns your own messaging. Like a house falling in after passing a crooked house inspection.

Blair is fine. He won't go on forever. Who knows when he will step aside, but at some point he will. And he's far more effective now than even Shelby was his entire tenure with us. After all...he matched Shelby's S16 trips in the last two years...

Back to back Sweet 16s with one of the best players in the country is the definition of negative trending. There are fewer legitimate contenders in WBB than in MBB that making S16 isn't nearly the same accomplishment.

Are you prepared to have to hire a turn around specialist in 3 years or so? We're going to be light years behind Baylor and Texas by then.

Greg, Incredible logic. Simply incredible. jj gets it. We are already in a hole. We will not be competitive as a top 10 ten for five years.

Didn't a coach who had the BEST PLAYER in the country go to the NCAA finals twice in a row and lose them both - why?

Because the finals is significantly different than the S16?

How badly will Vic out recruit and our coach Gary?

If he can do it at MSU he can certainly do it in Austin!

He may find it more difficult then MSU, where at least one of the players Gary Blair sent to him would not have qualified in Texas.

They took Dani, Vic took Lashes, Coale took Peyton, TCU took that pg I forget. I liked them all here. Suggesting their collapses elsewhere is a blot on Gary's record is false.

Gary Blair is a better head coach than we have ever had before in men's or women's basketball. Give him up before he's ready and don't expect to keep his players on continue his records. Likely will take three or four coaches if we ever resemble his success again.

I do not have the means of stopping a change. But I will argue against it. Correct me if any of you were truly following our women before Gary arrived AND are now triggered by his success....

That wasn't directed at you Bucket. Just leveraging your comment to make a point.

Would you rather be losing in and failing to advance beyond the S16 or twice losing the Championship game? Your posts make a great case why change is absolutely necessary.

I think the next couple of years will tell the tale. We have a really good recruiting class coming in. I actually think that with our returning starters and the newcomers we will likely be better next year without CC than we were with her this year. IMO

GB has us as a consistent top 25 team. I think the expectation is a consistent top 10 team.

Can't believe I didn't see this a few months ago. Absolutely shocked Vic took the Texas job with his Aggie past. He obviously was waiting on the A&M job but we didn't make a move fast enough and he wanted to retire in Texas at one of the major jobs. He might be the highest paid coach in the country now too. So frustrating. Who will replace Blair in a few years now when he decides to retire?

Texas is making some big moves in coaching. Last year it was softball with Oregon's coach (Top 3 coach in the nation), now Vic in WB (top 3 coach in the nation). We can only hope Bjork gets his act together soon and starts upgrading several sports on campus.

Vic gettin' paid:

Quote:

The University of Texas System board of regents this week will approve a seven-year deal for Schaefer that will pay out $13.8 million in guaranteed base salary. The employment agreement also features a $300,000 relocation bonus and a one-time payment of $200,000 if still employed following the 2024-25 season.

Schaefer's annual base salary begins at $1.8 million and will increase to $1.9 million in 2023-24, $2 million in 2025-26 and $2.1 million in 2026-27. The contract also includes several performance incentives: $250,000 for a NCAA Division I basketball tournament title, $50,000 for a Big 12 regular-season or tournament championship, $50,000 for national coach of the year honors and $20,000 for conference coach of the year honors.

In all honesty. I wish Vic the best. I hope we get to see Blair succeed similarly and hope to see both meet in the Final Four.
