I have an employee in a professional role that we've tried and tried to get them to improve the way they communicate / interact with employees hired to help them. They continue to be overbearing and emotional intermittently, which really negatively impacts the people that work with them.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of a course that we can get them to attend - offsite, with professional folks that can maybe really make an impact? I'd appreciate any help or direction.

Idk. I thought that was more to help folks be better public speakers. I'm looking to get this person help recognize bad communication habits, both verbal and nonverbal.

Yes, tried that. This person just doesn't really have much insight into their actions. I don't know if something like this would help, but worth a shot.

Promote the employee. My old boss promoted someone that had very little EQ then said I needed more eQ and to be like him. Both of them are tsips so we know how much eQ they have.

If it is the latter not much you can do to fix that.

Maybe something like a FranklinCovey (7 habits) workshop?

I would definitely suggest an in person and offsite workshop so that you're employee is exposed to others and outside of their comfort zone.

Are you using "they" and "them" as pronouns or are you referring to a group of people that have to work with this employee.

I've attended Dale Carnegie and thought it was helpful from a public speaking standpoint. I've also seen it really improve introvert's be more outgoing after attending - essentially taught them how to small talk and even sell. There are some concepts that might help, but not sure how effective the overall course would be in this situation.

Maybe look at extension/professional classes with the area schools, TCU used to offer something like this several years ago.

The corps had a solution for this. You took the cadet to a state corner and left them with their class year in change and their ID. By the time they made their way back to College Station they could talk to people without being an ass.

Hi, I'm pretty new to the business scene, but if there's one thing I've learned, it's that constant learning is key. Communication skills are super important, and I'm all about leveling up my skills whenever I can. I regularly attend trainings, webinars, and ecommerce events to stay sharp. It's all about keeping those skills fresh and improving how you interact with others. For your situation, maybe look into some workshops that focus on emotional intelligence and effective communication.

If you are willing to invest in the employee, and that's only a determination you can make, you could look at a professional coach who will also do a 360 review with the peers. I've seen that be successful but it requires an investment of money and time. If that doesn't work then don't forget everyone is replaceable and often you can get an upgrade even if you don't think that will happen.

Try to see if you can get them enrolled in a Crucial Conversations course or just read the book.

The stories that they are telling themselves about other people could be the source of their negative tones.
