Celina water is insanely expensive. Prospers isn't much better. Our water bills are about 30% more for same usage than when we were in Plano.

The sewer piece is dumb. They also measure sewer rate in prosper for the winter months which we were using less than a few thousand gallons… it didn't drop too much.

Mine was $200 last month here in prosper. No pool, brand new house, smart water controllers for lawn.

$0.45 kwh + through PG&E in California.

That's why we counter it with 38 solar panels.

What panels do you have and do you have a home battery?

Energy Ogre. Got me a year contract in the low 12's. It's the only way to go.
I just signed up with Energy Ogre today. Wondering what they will find for me....

I just noticed I got my plan option back from them and it's 18c / kwh all-in. Reliant is offering to re-up for 15c which is best deal I've seen so guess I'm re-upping with Reliant and cancelling EnergyOgre.

I hope they aren't getting lazy. I'm surprised to hear that, although maybe Reliant didn't offer that on the public market, only to existing customers. I wasn't thrilled going from 9 to 12 but I guess I should consider myself lucky.

does Reliant still offer the "free nights and weekends"? I would think at this point, if that truly is real and not a gimmick, you could take serious advantage of it if you're out of the house during the work day.

Yes. Just looked at it.

Any details? When do "nights" start and weekends?

What's the rack rate the rest of the time? 35c/kWh?

I renewed with energy ogre about 3 months ago at around 13c/kWh

I also looked at that "pooling" company and they said my rate was better.

The <2000 >1000 plans are intriguing but I don't want to have to game that system since I've got gas heat/water.

Thank God I'm locked in at 9.8 cents per KWh until July 2023.

Sorry, I've already forgotten what it fully said other than you get 1c off nights and weekends. I didn't fully digest what the catch was for that though.

Been with energy ogre for 2 years and they just re-upped me today with Reliant (Reliant bought the provider my last contract was with about halfway thru). 13.3 at 2k, 13.8 at 1000, 14.8 at 500. The jump sucks, but given what I've been seeing, I don't feel terrible about where this landed. FJB

WTF? I got 18 from EO. Where are you located?

Reliant offered me a better renew rate.

Plano. Mine ended up a re-up because I was already with Reliant since they acquired the provider EO had me with near the end of last year

Signed up with Constellation. Had them 2 years ago before I signed up with Think and really liked them. Locked in at 15 / KwH (total after TDU/centerpoint fees) on 36 month contract. Only $99 cancel fee so I can check back in 6 months to see if there's anything better and If so, it won't take long to make that up.

EO just locked me into a similar Reliant rate as above, think mine was slightly over 14 at 1000, though, it's a 20 month contract. I'm in Rice Military.

I signed up for EO almost a month ago, as my contract expired and was hoping they could find me a new plan. However, after 4 weeks, I'm still not under contract. Has anyone experienced this? Do I just cancel?

Yes, mine was 20 mos as well. High cancellation fee as well. I think $250

Not normal, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are totally overwhelmed right now with new business from people looking for a miracle. I've been a customer for a few years, and it seems like this tome we got closer to mine expiring than the last few times

Look in the mobile app. I noticed that the plan they have put in front of me is ready to be approved in the app, but there is nothing in their internet portal.

I also never received an email or heard back from them after I signed up. I happened to look at the app and noticed my new plan was there ready to approve.

Pretty sloppy company and I'm not impressed.

My contract with Discount power expired in May and EO had me month to month. I just happened to log into DiscountPower portal and I clicked on what they were offering to renew. 36 months for $0.064213 + TDSP delivery charges with $250 cancellation charge.

I'm a fan of EO, but they're in a terrible spot nowadays. My contract is up on Jun 10 and I just don't see how they're going to find anything decent based on the intel here.

NEC Co-Op has a monthly variable at 13.3 for 2k and I might just spin the wheel on that for a couple of months. My guess is they have hedged gen capacity far below that and able to make a nice profit for at least a little while.

Right, it's all crap out there and I'm sure they are getting pounded with new signups from previous DIY's who are now looking for help and hoping they can pull a rabbit out of a hat.

Guilty.

I actually got signed up on two plans at same time today because I kind of screwed up. I thought I still had to actively say yes to the plan that EO found me. In meantime, I renewed with Reliant for a cheaper rate and then late today for notice from EO that they signed me up to 18c rate I posted earlier. Whoops.

They were very nice and understanding to their credit when I called and asked them to cancel their plan for me.

Yeah. I had to double and triple check to make sure my eyes weren't doing tricks on me. Locked it in and canceled EO right afterwards.

I'm at 10.6/kWh all in for one more year. Dreading next year when I'll be dealing with this, but in the meantime may offer to run extension cords to my neighbors and charge a small fee

Glad they got it sorted out. I've used them for a few years and no issues. I think one time the electric provider messed something up; I sent an email to EO who intervened and handled ASAP. But I can't imagine what it is there like right now. Has to be a total zoo. That said, my current contract was going to be up June 26, so they were on top of getting me renewed with 3-4 weeks to spare. But in the past it has been more like 6 weeks

Just got an email to renew with reliant (they bought contract of previous company) for $0.118/kWh @ 2000 for 36 months ($295 early term). I'm moving into another house in the same neighborhood in about 3 months.

I've read the term sheet and don't see anything about transferability of the same deal. The term fee is waived if you move and show evidence of moving.

Anyone have any insight if a contract like this is transferable if in the same service area (e.g. same zip code)?

Edit - confirmed with Reliant that you can transfer service and retain the existing contract. Phew…

If that's all in (counting the local charge), you need to jump on that as soon as possible. If that's just the energy charge, you can do better on powertochoose

I've got no insight into if electricity plans are just trying to make it through the summer or if these rate hikes are here to stay.

My long term stance are:

-ERCOT incentivizes bad grid management as huge spikes in prices pay out the producers who normally complain about barely scraping by on maintenance.
-EPA's regulations have forced closures of 24/7 capacity through coal and have replaced them with wind/solar which creates more volatility.
-New LNG terminals are being brought online in the next few years which will allow gas to compete on the global market instead of just stick around in texas at reduced prices.
-Fracing won't produce a wall of new gas from new wells until investments reenter the field, which is looking like its slowly happening. Early reports say expect big production gains in Q3 and Q4 of this year (Q4 is the toughest quarter for production gains though).
-More people move to texas every year which means more power generation capacity is required.

It only takes one random weather event where just a few producers are caught with their pants down and its $9/kwh pricing.

Very lucky.

Wish I understood the regional differences better so I had some inkling of what drives pricing differences.

Just got the contract from EO. They put me in a 12 month plan at an average of 21 cents for 12 months. Meanwhile on power to choose, there are numerous plans that are less than that, for longer period.
