not trying to duplicat what's been said or dumb things down, but for a novice investor (myself being one) ETH has become the most attractive.

here's my brief thoughts, and i'd love to hear insight...

1) Bitcoin - designed to store value. it's an asset with a highly volitile valuation. scarcity and demand alone drive value from what i can tell..
2) Ethereum - designed to track value and act as a foundation for other crypto innovations. many, many other cryptos are pegged to the ETH network. I'm not an expert so i'm going to enjoy hearing someone explain how i'm mistaken, but it seems like as any one of these other cryptos take off, it's going to take ETH with it like a rocket. What seems valueable to me about ETH is the functionality it provides other, more specific cryptocurrencies.

I also like Compound and Cardona, which from what i've learned are both ETH offspring cryptos.

Many other cryptos are going to need mass adoption of their respective currencies to drive value. Not like bitcoin, but at a far greater institutional level because many of them don't have the scarcity bitcoin has with capped inventories. People are going to have to look at these beyond day trades or investments and actually use the platforms/functions they fuel to drive value.

like i said, i'm just a novice. i researched for 60 days and have been trading for 30. with the charts how they are it's almost been impossible to lose. more than anything else, i'm just putting my understanding out there hoping to learn more about it in the process

My cryptocurrency investments are about 90% BTC and 10% ETH and other ETH tokens like LINK. I figure BTC has the best chance of sticking around long term and ETH has a lot of utility due to all the different tokens using the ETH network, but I'm not totally sold on it yet due to decisions made by its developers in the past.

I'm now 2/3 ETH 1/3 ADA. May make that look more like 50/50 soon.

What's this board's consensus on Eth2 and its switch to PoS?

I think I grasp proof of work pretty well but not proof of stake.

I stake 11 coins via the coins respective protocol(private keys retained on Ledger) and/or Binance. I can manage a 12th if needed.

I'll probably wait until it rolls out with its full functionality. There are a lot of interesting coins "that are about to do x,y,z" and many don't deliver.

Visa getting in the game: https://www.theblockcrypto.com/linked/103048/visa-ceo-crypto-earnings-call-comments?utm_source=coinbase&utm_medium=rss

"So our focus is on five different opportunities that we see in this space and I would say that this is space that we are leaning into in a very big way and I think are extremely well-positioned," Kelly said during the call.

In the topic of [Central Bank Digital Currencies] CBDCs, Visa said that the firm is in conversation with central banks about their development, suggesting that the payments firm could play a role in that process.
"We're talking to central banks about the criticality of public/private partnership and in particular the criticality of acceptance because for these central bank digital currencies to have value, they're going to have to both be secure in the minds of consumers, and that's something we have a long track record with and could help. And then secondly, obviously they have to have some form of utility," Kelly said.

I have a general hardware wallet security question. Do any of you think it is absolutely necessary to use the "25th word" passphrase with your wallet, or do you think just having a secure backup of your 24 word seed phrase is good enough?

I'm considering using 25th word passphrase, but it complicates things.

I spent alot of time thinking about this and decided that the possibility I lose or forget this word(s) or I drop dead and my heirs can't get to my/their bitcoin was not worth it for me. Take all the necessary precautions with your 24 word seed, and you should be good to go was my assessment. Let us know what you decide.

One more quick thought on this topic....I did consider having 2 wallets, one with the 25th word seed and one without. Under the plan that I would normally keep my crypto in the 24-word wallet only, and only move the money to the 25th word seed wallet during times where I thought physical security of my Trezor or Ledger was < 100% secure as an added layer of security. If you're super paranoid about physical security this might be an option for you.

I'm still undecided, but you bring up another good question. How are you passing on the information about your 24 word seed phrase to your heirs? You'd have to put a lot of trust in the person/company managing the will that they wouldn't reveal the location of the seed phrase or access the seed phrase themselves.

Powell isn't threatened by Crypto. But guarantee if crypto ever encroaches in USD reserve currency status, it will be game over, quick.

More like the USD devalues down to Bitcoin's level because of dumb government money printing, but yeah let's blame crypto.

Not an issue right this second and I'll leave it at that.....

Longer term - plan to have the seed spread out between multiple safe deposit boxes where my two sons will be forced to work together to get the entire seed. I could envision both sons have a key to a safe deposit box provided by me before my death, but don't know the address to the safe deposit location. Upon my death, my attorney gives both boys the address to their first safe deposit boxes which are in my sons names and they have the keys. Once they open that box, the key to the next safe deposit box is available with additional instructions to the next and so on; with the last safe deposit box requiring both boys signatures and revealing to them the order of the words in the pass phrase they have collected from their safe deposit boxes.

Explain like I'm five, why would decentralized currency not tied to any actual currency, be scary for the USD, the new benchmark for the world, and the FED?

Check out SharedStake. You can stake any amount of ETH into ETH2 and earn SGT rewards. It's new so analyze your risk tolerance.

Falling USD locks in US citizens to an inflation spiral. If you escape the USD, you're not beholden to the government anymore. This is not what the FED wants. They want to print money. Taking USD and planting it into crypto hurts that goal.

Breaking news:
You can use a bitcoin standard and still make inflationary USD notes.

They just have to compete against bitcoin. So.

Similarly you can practice fractional reserve banking with bitcoin, but its harder to not be honest about reserve status.

A couple of these are smaller 50mm marketcaps. Should be good for an easy 2 or 3x.

Macro structure looks like distribution. You can see the bounces are smoothing out. If we break previous ATH soon that would change things but right now I don't think May is going to be fun.

Overall it's still consolidation before the move to 100k so no need to panic really
