Do you use a particular service for mining, like Nice Hash?

I did use nicehash as a quick one button type mining solution, but my video card is older, so I didn't think it was worth it.

HNT there is no mining pool.
With LBC(ASIC) I use ViaBTC.

So lets say that for a use case I think that ETH/SOL/AVX all are too centralized, and I would instead like to build DAPPs etc using the bitcoin network. How would I do so? At the moment, it doesn't appear to me that there is a feasible alternative. What am I missing?

You said DAPPs, but you meant DINOApps.

I'd probably direct you to develop LAPPs lightning network applications.

Or contribute to the bitcoin github if you have the ability and time!

Hopefully it is helpful, and hopefully you're able to help develop some unique or mundane fixes that make bitcoin even stronger.

I haven't done any coding in 13 years, I've threatened yself umpteen times to get back into it without success.

The downside of BTC becoming more mainstream means it starts to track with the overall market. IOW, you now have more recreational investors who are 100% subject to emotions.

I'm going to bet that is at least partially the issue here.

Precisely. Add in the fact that trading algos (and then individuals) bounce the entire market around on what BTC is doing.

The decoupling talk is quite prevalent for these reasons. When an ecosystem can trade independently on what it is doing we will have digital asset "sectors" - NFTs, Defi, gaming, social platforms, etc.

It is probably 4-8 years away for the start of decoupling and 10 years away from completely decoupling funcrional digital assets from BTC.

On this note, have the BTC price forecasters factored in the reality of the mainstream investors penchant for panic buying and selling as an offset of their meteoric rising forecasts?

I've never looked too much into their methodologies other than many saying the whole halving trend is just the way it is.

Most stick to the trends they weathered the past 8 years. Some account for institutional adoption but fail to understand and account for their motivation.
I believe the previous cycles will change and we will no longer see the same habits and trends.

completely agree that we will now longer see the same habits and trends going forward. Institutional $ + large market caps have completely changed the space.

Bitcoins only billboard and marketing is the price versus USD, so I do look at the price daily, but I've ceased looking at price analytics, for better or worse. Everything about bitcoin is fascinating and I'm most fascinated by the human philosophical changes that will come with a bitcoin standard.

Imo, bitcoin has already won and we need to be preparing our families, businesses, communities and structures therein for the end of fiat and beginning of bitcoin standards. Big questions are going to be tested and answered very quickly as we incentivize maximum human energy production for the greatest benefits. That time is now.

I haven't gotten top into the weeds with the majority of the layer 2 protocols yet, but I have jumped into different groups that are and read about them that way, via back and forth and my own discovery/research.

I'm high on rsk/sovryn, uncertain about Stacks, and know nothing of MoC or TBDex off the top of my head. I'll report back when I do though. Do you have any thoughts?

Agree with both of you.

Nothing is the same anymore because we printed trillions of dollars from nothing in 2 years where inflation had previously been relatively consistently presented.

Perception and reality shifting narratives take hold much quicker than anyone can respect imo.

This is my assumption as well. Consequently, my reason for doubting the forecasts of BTC getting to 100k this year (which clearly looks like it won't happen) and then subsequent claims that it gets into the millions a few years from now.

I just don't see how that's possible as more investors get into it, but who the hell knows.

No, I get that which is was why I hedged on "who knows".

Just not sure yet which force is going to win out - hyperinflation or karen investors.

I think deflation wins out. The numbers are hard to wrap one's mind around. Only having 21 million Bitcoin EVER is insane. 7.8 billion people (and counting) in the world only get access to 21 million Bitcoin.

21 million / 7.8 billion = 0.00269

That means that there is, on average, only 0.00269 bitcoins available per person on earth (there's obviously actually less due to lost coins).

No amount of Karen investors can offset that math.

I think it will make it tough to be a medium of exchange even at the msat level. However, the scarcity makes it attractive from a store of value standpoint immediately even if it's never used to buy pizzas.

There's only 21 million bitcoin, really only 19M bitcoin that aren't provably defunct or lost forever.

But that's also 190 quadrillion satoshis.
190,000,000,000,000.

And there's only 21 quadrillion satoshis left to mine over the next 140 years or so.

Gonna be fun, seeing Americans get zero shock.

I dont think we will be spending bitcoin, in fact I don't think we will generally be spending satoshis. I think primarily for payments we will use fractions of satoshis that settle on the lightning network channels. The lightning network can do millisats [0.001 satoshis = 1 mSat] currently.

Good news, there are 1000 times as many satoshis as you showed above. Your string of zeros only made it into the trillions.
