How long do you want to ignore this user?
I intended to sell some of my shares when the stock hit $90. Forgot to put in my order before it hit $91.50 back in early March. It's been flirting with it today (hit $89.80) but now it's back to $87.68. This is driving me crazy!

I just cashed out my XOM for a 126% gain earlier this week. Had planned on keeping it at least another year or so but just couldn't resist!

*#@#*&!!! Why didn't I buy more last year!!

Everybody wants to sell at $90. I think all of O&G goes on one last tear as the air above that comparative level is clean and free.

definitely would not sell until we figure out if EU is going to ban russian oil or not. if that happens oil will go parabolic imo

Anybody have any idea why XOM is down so bad this morning? Was it something to do with the headlines about the flag stuff? Oil is off a bit, but not enough to justify the fall this morning.

All of oil is down, though no reason for XOM to be down this much. It ain't about the flag. The only worry with XOM is Guyana getting uppity.

Delivering Russian fuel to Norway?

https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/25/energy/greenpeace-russian-oil-tanker-exxonmobil/index.html

London (CNN Business)Norwegian police arrested seven Greenpeace activists on Monday after they chained themselves to a Russian oil tanker to try to prevent it docking at a port in Norway operated by Exxon.

A spokesperson for ExxonMobil told CNN in a statement that deliveries of Russian fuel to Norway "are fulfilling contracts that were in place prior to the invasion."
"We have not made any new purchases of Russian products since the invasion, and there are no plans for future purchases," she said.
"We are fully complying with all sanctions, and we support the internationally coordinated efforts to bring Russia's unprovoked attack to an end," the spokesperson added.

Nice little run XOM has been on. My wt price point for entry is <$35, all picked up this year

I still think we see $85 again in the next 3 years, so I'm not taking any profits at this point.

Edited for typo

Thank you very much, FrioAg from the past. And thanks for nailing Altria at the bottom as well.

Now my only question for you is… why the hell were you arguing so passionately against Admin Errors in 2017 with Bitcoin at $4k?!?

Rolled out of XOM when it was around $71 and into VLO at $88. Might end up a wash with XOM continuing to rise but VLO has been on a tear lately.

Did you look at the attached picture? How was I wrong... Other than maybe on that day.. but this thread started buying at 60. As I said, there was about 1 week in that time where it worked out... And until about 10 days ago, it never looked good.

Sit around long enough and you can frequently prove you made the right call (1 way or the other).

I just find it interesting that everyone here is talking about how great this turned out. It didn't unless you bought that specific few days. And when I disagree, you guys get catty. Not one has refuted my facts with facts.

Was it a bad investment.. no, but what was bad dating back to March 2020? Was it good relative to most anything else.. no? But it's one of the very few investments that has a 2 year old thread touting its success.. and in my opinion, erroneously so.
XOM is like the Little Engine that Could.

Seriously, it's the ONLY investment of mine that's making money right now. Prob should have bought more than 100 shares, but I got in right before the Covid drop, and that spooked me.

I'm still looking good on my long-term hold of PLUG, but I got in on that when it was a penny stock. May buy some more. It's only $2 off it's 52w low.

Aside from those two it's just blood.

That and energy are the only things countering my crappy small cap growth disasters.

XOM is the only individual stock I own. Everything else is in funds. Any they are all down at the moment.

Just wait till they cut the divy - it's going to be a bloodbath. Energy in general is a dead cat bouncing into the gutter. No one destroys value better or faster than O&G companies.

They create a product that's out of favor and against the times while trying to convince people they won't miss the next big thing when they've missed it everytime or really don't care about it because they're empire builders in it for their ego and for no one else.

that seems to be a pretty conservative investment model unless you are into massively leveraged ETF

43. I'm in the market, just not individual stocks. Non-retirement investments are mostly Fidelity index funds. I just don't have the time or investing skill to play individual stocks.

I bought XOM right before Covid because that initial hit the stock took was in-part due to their chemicals business. I'm in the industry and knew that would come back (just didn't know Covid would hit, too).

I bought XOM a little over 3 months ago for the dividend. I haven't gotten my first dividend yet and I'm up 33%. I'll hold till I get the dividend in the next couple of days and then sell some.

FWIW, my midstream plays (MMP, EPD, MPLX) have also done well of late.

Ditto!

I've been buying stocks based on their Dividend, the yield and the track record for dividend growth rate.

Kind of got into it because I made a bunch of money working with guys in the area that did start up banks (bunch of Hokies, I have a masters from UVA but I don't mention around them much). We would build the bank up and sell it off to another larger regional bank. Worked out great for three banks and 25ish years. The last one we did team leader had a big enough stash he's now in FL playing golf all day. At the last shareholder's meeting to announce the last merger it was decided we would switch from a stock price growth to a dividend model. Worked out alright but I wasn't getting the growth I was used to.

Started to sell off bits large enough to pay the LTCG and move over to our ROTHs every year for the last 10-15 years.

In the meantime I had switched investment account and my new guy suggested I buy this biotech that had a great pipeline, blah, blah. Gilead, sure enough the stock took a dive soon after, but it was paying a pretty good dividend and even better % at the lower price so I went ahead and doubled up. Been buying more on dips and watching the dividend consistently go up every year.

Looked at XOM a couple years ago, and what!?!? XOM was paying 10% dividend for a few months at ~$36 and looking at the dividend history the dividend has consistently gone up never down. Broker said, yea well it might for now, I bet it wouldn't, so far so good.

Did the same with D when the CA fires took down all of the power companies including the ETF, UTG. So I bought equal parts of each. My BIL just retired from D, we've been discussing it forever but I never bought it before. Sure enough the D got in some hot water of sorts and the dividend was cut down a bit last fall, but is moving back up at a faster rate than before. Thought about selling it but I haven't cause I'm still doing well enough and I think Electric Power is a sure bet for the future.

I also looked at BA when it took the dive on the 737 Max but I'm glad I didn't. They're sort of like REITS in a sense.

My understanding is that the Rail Roads are great for this type of investing.

Dividend Growth, if you start when you are young you can't go wrong.
