US lower 48 oil production is down to 9 million barrels per day.

Down from 12.5 million barrels per day in Feb 2020.

Combine with summer driving season and rig count still low and you have a
set up for $80/bbl

Buy, buy, buy

Up 17% since I said buy on 11/12...
I bought a boat load of 1/21/22 $50c on 10/2 when the stock closed at $32.98 - $1.3 cost basis. They're currently trading at $3.5 and I haven't sold one yet. I'm not trying to be greedy, but I really think this could be a grand slam type trade. I'll be sure to report back on how I screw up this trade.
First update - The CPA in me couldn't handle the greed of being up 200% and not taking some risk off. I sold 30% of my position in order to lock in even money and take all the risk off.
These calls closed at $5.4 and I'm still holding the remaining 70% of my position from $1.3. In the famous words of Jordan Belfort "I'm not effin' leaving!"

Ok my next target was hit. These calls hit $10.3 this morning from my $1.3 buy, so I sold half of my remaining position.

Well - I'm all out as of this morning. +487% return and my largest $$$ gain trade yet on an ~4 month hold. Feeling good Lewis. I hope it gets to $80 this year, for everyone's sake and so I can think about the additional gains I left on the table!

Follow-up.... the activists won...

https://www.wsj.com/articles/activist-wins-exxon-board-seats-after-questioning-oil-giants-climate-strategy-11622050087?mod=hp_lead_pos1

Quote:

An activist investor won at least two seats on the board of Exxon Mobil Corp. XOM, a historic defeat for the oil giant that will likely force it to alter its fossil-fuel focused strategy and more directly confront growing shareholder concerns about climate change.

Exxon said Wednesday a preliminary vote count showed shareholders backed two nominees of Engine No. 1, an upstart hedge fund owning a tiny fraction of the oil giant's stock. The final vote wasn't tallied as of early Wednesday afternoon, and the final composition of the board was unclear. Exxon Chief Executive Darren Woods was also re-elected to the board along with seven of Exxon's candidates, while two seats were undetermined, the company said.

Article just rolled out where they are telling XOM mgmt to "plan for a world that doesnt need your oil"

Oil is stored solar energy, The greatest energy storage ever created. Burning its products is not killing the planet as alleged by the left and "scientists" competing for "research" money. If we go to all electric erthing, where will the energy come from to manufacture it and charge it? If you think we have electric grid problems now, just wait. Carry on.

XOM hasn't caught the wave yet... up just 10% in last 6 months.

Anyone think there is a 20-25% nice run still to come on this before year end ??

I am no expert but barring a massive increase in oil prices or increase in dividend I don't see much run-up. I feel like those who got in low 40s did fine but if you are buying in the high 50s / low 60s you prob wont killing it on stock price increase...mainly would be buying for the dividend....thats me though...could be WAY off.

I think XOM still has plenty of room to run. Oil sees 100 before 70. Exxon will report great earnings next week and it's even better next quarter. At these prices they can easily go back to making $30B/year. Plenty of cash for dividend and sharebuybacks.

A few years ago XOM was being punished for all their investing in the down cycle while everybody else started returning cash back to shareholders. A lot of those investments are coming online now at high prices and the board is now more disciplined about investing more at high prices.
