I have about 5 pairs of Allen Edmonds and one pair of Magnani shoes. I will not buy anything but AEs going forward.

My shirts I get from Proper Cloth or CT. The trouble with CT shirts is I have no other choice but to get the "classic" fit shirts which are really blousy around the mid-section. My dimensions are such that I cannot wear a slim fit shirt because it won't fit across my chest (I'm a 42" coat, but a 32" waist) ; hence, I buy the CT shirts which I like, but are not ideal.

I have the EXACT same chest/waist measurements and I wear CT extra slim fit shirts just fine. They snug the shoulders, arms, and chest but I think that looks fine in my opinion. I enjoy the way that feels, too. Oh that is usually is with a Shield AIWB, too.

Oh and absolutely Allen Edmonds!

Allen Edmonds for shoes.
Brooks Brothers for slacks.
CT Shirts for... well... shirts.
I have a few Mezzine & Main shirts that I like. They're just expensive as hell so I usually get one around the birthday/Christmas.

Does Charles Tyrwhitt make traveler/wrinkle free shirts? The only one I own is nice but it wrinkles very easily so I don't wear it often.

Be a slobby engineer. Wear jeans and an untucked polo for the vast majority of your career.

Worked great so far.

Yes.

I have a few of their normal shirts, and they wrinkle like crazy.

Now I only buy their wrinkle free shirts, and they are great. Their wrinkle free chinos are also very good, and they just started selling a stretch chino that I also really like.

I get a buckling that happens across my chest. O-well. I tried on a Brooks Brothers "fitted" shirt this weekend. It wasn't bad at all. I may try these going forward.

They do, but not in Texas. A couple in New York , one in DC and one in Chicago. And then a bunch in England.

For years I was a Brooks Bros devotee. But I stopped into Tyrwhitt while I was in London several years ago and that's almost exclusively what I've bought since then. Their shirts are great, their suits are good for the price. Better than Brooks (which they are cheaper than) and much, much better than a Jos A Bank (which they are comparable in price to). I've been very happy with all of my CT ties as well.

I'm going to try Indochino now that they're opening a store in Houston. Several times I've gone to Suit Supply but I leave empty handed every time.

I've had a pair of Florsheim Royal Imperial split toe shoes for years now and they've been great. Had resoled a few times now, but extremely comfortable.

For shirts, it's CT shirts extra slim fit all the way.

My suits are all Suit Supply.

Have a J Crew blazer or two as well.

Any options for a 24 year old that isn't rich enough to buy $500 shoes?

Check out the Allen Edmonds clearance section on their website. Shoes are under $200 on there.

Buy what you like and learn to shoeshine. Shoes and suits last much longer, fit better, and look sharper when you understand there is maintenance to be done.

I get my florsheims and Edmonds from eBay. I get my shirts from itailor. Sport coats from Stein Mart or Dillard's clearance. Don't own a suit any more.

Itailor shirts fit well once you figure out the size. Have to iron the heck out of them, though.

High risk, high reward here. If you have not heard of Massdrop, they are a company that will partner with certain manufactures to do limited product runs of shoes (and other products) on a pre-sale and final sale basis.

They have some nice-looking Goodyear welted shoes right now for $125.

https://www.massdrop.com/buy/nico-nerini-wingtip-shoes (may have to sign up for an account to view). Word is that these run true to size.

Allen Edmonds for shoes, Brooks Brothers for dress shirts (they have 4 fits, so you should be able to dial in one that fits), Spier & Mackay for pants and blazers.
What I do as well.

I'll Suit Supply to suits and jackets.

AE are good shoes but unless you are wearing tailored slacks and at least a dress shirt (i.e. shirt, not coat/sport coat/suit) a good pair of Eccos will more than suffice. Clarks are decent as well, but spend a little on Eccos and they will last years. For dress shoes, if you need a dressy, leather sole type shoe, Johnston and Murphy is a good brand. Cole Hann, if they fit you, is a good compromise as well. I'd just stay away from the Bostonians, etc. brands.

I wear a nice pair of black, Ariat boots. Dress pants from Men's Wearhouse...I get nice Joseph Abboud pants on sale and use a local tailor. A few nice dress shirts from there or similar places but majority are Van Heusen wrinkle free. Affordable and plenty professional for healthcare management and c suites...

Just got some CT shirts in the mail this week. Ordered slim fit and the midsection is still way too blousey. Im not rocking a huge guy so it looks like crap and bunched up tucked in.

I'm gonna try out the return process for the extra slim fit I guess, but I'm worried that the extra slim will be too slim across the chest.

On the positive side, I like the material. Feels cool enough to wear in the summer.

Here are some comparisons between Charles Tyrwhitt and Brooks Brothers shirt sizes.

CT vs BB shirts

You really need to pay attention to the neck size because all of the other dimensions vary a lot depending on the neck. It may be that the slim fit is too blousy because you need to go a half inch smaller in the neck rather than moving to a slimmer fit or vice versa.

Church's shoes made in the UK are my go-to.

For winter weather and rain, Red Wing Beckmans.

I wish i had bought both of these 20-years ago and been done with dress shoes for life.

I second the posters above talking about getting custom tailored clothes.

If you ever have a reason to go to Singapore or Hong
Kong, just do it and dont look back. Makes the off the rack stuff look and feel like wearing a trash bag.

Thats another thing i wish i had done 20 years ago.

Once you are certian you've stopped growing, its best to bite the bullet on some high quality stuff and not worry about it again.

CT is opening in the Houston Galleria, just walked by the future store. Also, indochino opened a store in the galleria. Custom made shirts with free in house tailoring adjustments in case they don't get it right the first time; 5 for 300 or 3 for 200. Pretty good deal.

Tyrwhitt running a 3/$99 sale right now with free shipping. Just picked up 6. The sizing link I posted above is very accurate. I went up a half inch in collar size on a couple of them to get a better fit in the chest & waist - don't plan on wearing a tie with those (and hardly ever wear one at all).

I found the link to the sale on Facebook.
