How long is "a while"?
I don't intend to hold it a while. You'll have to ask techno. I have alerts set up at $32 and $35, as I expect a bounce later this week. The problem with BOIL is it can drop 10-15% overnight, so once I have a solid return in hand I exit and wait to buy again at the next dip.
BOIL sitting just below it's low from a few weeks back, it can use that to bounce IF it's gonna. Support under here looks to be ~23.75, but I would think going back that far is hard to do for a 2x leveraged play.

I could be wrong and frequently am but I suspect the wild swings we're used to seeing with BOIL will resume in January. I'm committed to holding at least until it sees 40 again. But I'd love to double my money in the 50s.

Looking at the BOIL chart for technical analysis isn't a great idea IMO due to leverage decay.
You should look at something like UNG instead. They're obviously similar, but if you're trying to find things like double-bottoms, those are going to be different.
The tail doesn't wag the dog… BOIL moves because NG futures move, not the other way around. Rebalancing will kill any momentary differences.
Same principle is true for TQQQ/SQQQ vs QQQ. Or whatever leveraged your prefer. Analyze the chart of the unleveraged, then make your trade on the leveraged.

I would not use an averaging strategy with BOIL. It's unruly, so you may want to consider a wider stop, but you definitely need to honor that stop, and gtfo when necessary.Philip J Fry said:

Back before I could trade full time, I used a swing trading strategy with a scan I created that would identify extremely oversold and overbought equities, coupled with a certain percentage ATR short term move related to a longer term ATR. I would average in intervals based on the ATR, as necessary. The trades were usually closed out within 3 days to 1 month. It worked quite well for about 2 years, until I discovered SHIP. I believe that one wiped out half of my profits over those 2 years.
It's human nature to want to buy things for "cheap". There are certain instruments in the market where this is a good idea, but there are a lot more where it isn't.
