I have been selling off parts of my VGT holdings to buy individual company stocks at their 52 week lows (Netflix, Paypal, Walmart, now Target, Palantir, FB, Microsoft)

anyone see a downside to this?

My thought is that VGT is still likely heading down and I am selling at a profit,

and I already have my corporate 401K is all mutual funds so why not take from an ETF and buy more individual diversified stocks at their lows..

what is quite amusing is that for a year the analysts on CNBC were stating that Target was a better stock than Walmart.

now look at the last two days when Walmart missed, and Target missed worse and is getting crushed.

I opened a position with Walmart yesterday and will add today, and open a position with Target.

sure, it may take a few years- but Target and Walmart (Dow component) aren't going to collapse over the next decade. they will be back in the next bull market.

So glad I sold the wife's TGT holdings in her roth last month at $220!

Feel like a Champ at the moment. The four XOM 1/19/24 Calls $90 I tried to sell yesterday at $15.10, then $15.00 sold this morning at $15.25...so far I am the Volume of the Day, High of the Day, Low of the Day, and the Contract High. Don't believe I ever hit the cycle before..

Again, I had the right move and saw the right direction. I simply chose an expiry poorly. Bought the options a day too soon and and chose an expiry a day too short.

May have to roll my 398P expiring today out to next week. They're up 350% today but I'm overall down big on them cause I chose a crappy expiration.

Ugh….

I really hate to buy oil and gas stocks as I already have too much exposure to the price of oil, but…..

I decided that oil is a good hedge against inflation.

Bought some FANG ( diamondback energy ticker symbol not fruit company) and cvx and DVN

This move seems over cooked. Different product line in my head and all the stores Ive been in have not had empty shelves except for Ammo

Anyone else seeing something different.

I'm currently in the process of re-teaching myself this lesson, feel like i have to do it 2 or 3 times a year. If you have a high level of confidence buy an extra strike or two worth of time, the move always happens later than you think it will

in Israel? not much chance of that happening. You realize Israel basically has state of the art U.S. weapons? No one wants to screw with them

To me - its the greater trend. There weren't less shoppers in Walmart or Target. It was the costs on the back end and the increased fuel and transports costs.

To me - I would be surprised if ASO didn't have the same or similar issues affecting their earnings.

I also wonder if this is a canary in the coal mine of discretionary spending being reigned in. Consumer spending numbers are being propped up by higher prices despite less actual purchases being made, possibly tgt and aso margins are in a tight spot between the consumers and suppliers
