Early Happy New Year to all. 2 degrees, feels like -18 and I got 3 inches of snow that need my attention. 2021 is in the books and here's to making some money in 2022.

Sold a few minutes ago (2:46) for $5.55. I got lucky because it it has dropped a pretty decent amount since.

Background: Back on 12/17 I bought a 12/31 SPX 4775/4800/4825c fly for $1.40 due to the huge OI on 4800c. The first few days it looked like a waste but it obviously perked up over the past week or so. On 12/28 I locked in some profit while still keeping the trade open. I rolled the 4775 to 4780 and the 4825 to 4820 for $1.75 credit. This left me with a 4780/4800/4820 net free+ fly for today.

BHP is another dividend stock I am holding right now.

Them, T, and some others that are major corporations with a history of solid dividends that are trading at a discount are (to me) the way to go.

Anyone in SHMP? It's up a little these past few days. Certainly a hit or miss stock but curious to see it gaining steam any time it gets around .30.
Yes, I finally bought some in early December at 0.305 just before Schwab raised its fees on OTC trades. SHMP has been on my watchlist since it was first mentioned on this board.

Any recommendations for subscription services?

I was with Shapiro for a while and really enjoy following Redler on Twitter. Ideas and plays are good but the teaching and strategies would be more important to me.

Interested to see what the board has on this topic.

I am traveling the next two weeks and probably won't post much. I do want to write down a couple of things:

1) buckle your seat belts and don't be fooled by beginning of year traps. Normally the first week is bullish. Last couple days was low volume so hard to read into it. January has some seasonal bearishness.

2) SPX 4765 area is key for bulls. 4745 area has to hold or there will be a push to 4710. Losing 4710 opens the door to 4500 area. I think there are extremely high odds we trade 45XX or lower in Q1. You'll see my perma bear instincts show up below 4710. In general, I don't see why we should be excited on a macro basis. The music will stop at some point soon. It's not likely to be a flash crash like 2000, but rather a slow and demoralizing multiple year decline. When TINA sentiment goes away and rates return, you'll see more folks go long yield (short bonds)

3) the current price action for SPX is chop consolidation aka basing. The longer this bases, the more energy builds up. We could charge to 4850 to 4900 as long as these key supports hold. I posted this on my phone a few days ago and that 4740 area is what I'm watching to hold.

4) Success this year, in my opinion, will be about preservation of capital. There will be winners, you just need to manage your losers really well. Remember that there is always a bull market somewhere

5) play relative strength names. Above 8 and 21 day. If it's below the 21 day, get out.

Once the midterm election picture starts becoming clearer, we may see some additional optimism in the market, on the possibility of a more business-friendly Congress being voted in.

HNY everyone. As others have pointed out, markets typically more friendly in the back half of the year in mid-term years, particularly with the political environment as it is.

Take a look at BTC chart. Looks rather bearish as I see it. If it drops below critical support line, opportunity to short companies like MARA may be financially lucrative.

I've been working on my own MATLAB based stock screener. First, I've downloaded a year's work of historical data for both the NYSE and NASDAQ. Then calculated the RSI and MACD of each stock (6000+). Filtering them by RSI's near 30, with MACD buy signals results in the chart above. I'm still playing with all the parameters, but the MACD filter checks to make sure there is upward momentum compared to the previous day's MACD. It also must still be a negative value in order to capture the beginning of the swing upwards.

For the longer term stocks, I'm tracking the winners of 2021 compared to the combined NYSE/NASDAQ indexes.

Based on my charting skills:

AVAV
Current Price: 62.5
Target Price ~70.

BLBD
Current Price: 15.40
Target Price ~20

BYSI
Current Price: 4.55
Target Price ~12

CMPS:
Current Price: 22.3
Target Price ~27.

GRAB:
Current Price: 7.02
Target Price 9

IGMS:
Current Price: 29.49
Target Price: 41

LC
Current Price: 24.27
Target Price: If it breaks 27, it could run

OZON
Current Price: 30.83
Target Price: 35.68

SQ
Current Price: 164
Target Price: 189

YNDX
Current Price: 60.55
Target Price: 68

None of these are 10 baggers. Just looking for quick turn arounds. Also all of these are trading below the EMA120. If some miracle happens, they might just run a bit more.

Digging way deeper in the data...

EVBG: Not sure why this wasn't caught in the matlab graph, but there is a nice gap to fill at it's current price. And the RSI/MACD combo is suggesting to buy it.
Current Price: 67.51
Gap to Fill: 110.

The top 20 my tool is giving me so far. I plan on updating this list every week:

'NVR'
'GOOGL'
'GOOG'
'AZO'
'SEB'
'MTD'
'TPL'
'CMG'
'COKE'
'CACC'
'TSLA'
'EPAM'
'ASML'
'SIVB'
'SHOP'
'UHAL'

If you are willing, I'd like to give some ideas for a screener. High level, I think there would be utility in the following:

1) on 30 minute time basis, 10 and 50 SMA crosses
2) for SPX, price is more than 2% below 10 SMA (50 above), RSI is oversold, and volume spike (10% more than average)
