Question for the board on the wash sale rule. If I sell my shares today on WWR to realize a loss for this year, then immediately sell a $5 put for Dec 17, would this be a wash sale? Even if the shares do get exercised, it would be past the 30 day mark. Thoughts?

The rules are fairly vague in defining the same/similar position. I have seen it referenced that this would qualify as a wash rule position as the put is ITM. If the underlying was trading higher than the strike and later went ITM, it would not be considered the same position. I don't know what your brokerage will mark it down as.aggieman27 said:
