Dumb question..

If I'm expecting gains in the market price of a stock, is there a way to set an order that triggers above a certain price and then executes the sell if it falls back below?
Stop buy order with a stop loss order accompanying it. Bracket orders are possible in TOS but I don't know how to do them
I already own the stock. I want to maximize gains. A standard limit order would sell once its hit. I want an order that "turns on" once a target is reached, sells if it hits a higher target, but also sells if it doesn't hit the high target and falls below the original target.

Example:

Market Price $1.00
1st trigger (which would become my stop once triggered): $1.20
2nd trigger (want it to sell the second this is hit): $1.25

Guaranteeing myself a sell between $1.20 and $1.25.

Only reason I ask is my day is about to get crazy busy and I'd love to just book something like this for one of my trades and then walk away.
Stop limit orders allow you to specify both a stop and limit price.
Higher than the current market?

I thought it was only lower than market when selling?
I didn't catch that. Why wouldn't you set a straight limit order then?
Because I want to maximize gains while I'm not able to be actively watching it. I want to go for my ultimate limit order but have it sell before a dive if it doesn't quite hit it
TOS allows submission/cancellation of orders based on conditional statements (symbol/method/trigger/threshold). Possibly a stop limit with a condition submission at your 1st stop price?
Would probably need assistance to figure out how to do that.

Thinking I might focus the other way on a SPY scalp.

Out of this trade.

$1.93 entry < $2.32 exit.
Nice.

Doesn't look like we're getting a dip, agree?
I bought on the 30 sec/1Min bottom at $16.90 then had already made the decision I would sell into any momentum into today's high. I saw the pause just about 418.46 and ejected.

But I think we continue up now. Bullish for a bit yet. Left money on the table no doubt but this was a scalp and had to stick to my 'rules'.

Am starting to get quite bullish on the metal space for the next few years. Thinking of buying leaps on miners, such as GDXJ. Anyone else have leaps on these or would buying actually metal etfs be better?

Thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately it's still trading close to my costs basis. I do have some May $17.5c out, but sold those before this run up.

Since the expectation is for CLOV to still run before year's ends and we're still below the original mass accumulation target below $13.50, am I in the clear to keep buying or wait for another dip? My concern was it hitting above $11 and then flying past $13.50.
Honestly I dont think I would buy above $11. There are far wiser men than me on here but its been pretty volatile and may easily fall back into the 8s anytime. However, I DO think by EOY it will be pushing $20+

This covers stop, conditional, and various OCO orders for TOS. I think you may need a combination of them to do what you're talking about and not have orders cancelled: https://tlc.thinkorswim.com/center/howToTos/thinkManual/Trade/Order-Entry-Tools/Order-Types.html

Perfect. Exactly what we need.

Just another arrow in the quiver that is the Dem war on the middle class and small business.

Give me a break. Taxes for the middle class are so simple, you can't possibly cheat them unless you're blatantly lying. I hate the income tax system, but if we're going to have it we might as well do better on enforcement on the cheats, both wealthy evaderd and the scammers that go to H&R block and lie on their return to max out refundable credits.
That's a bold statement (pun intended)... I am 29 and part of the middle class and my taxes have gotten a lot more complicated over the last couple years with all of the partnerships, LLC's, and other investments outside of the stock market. Taxes should be a lot more simple but they are not.

They are not doing this to help. They could simplify the tax laws if they wanted but they don't want to. Smart wealthy people know how to loophole. They do it because they feel they already pay their fair share. In aggregate they pay way more than their fair share.

But I regress.

I've made a template for OCO/ bracket orders in TOS
can be handy

Place a a buy stop or limit at specific price
- auto places a stop & target at same time

It'd be hard for me to explain here - but i know a short video that explains it well. I'll put in the TOS thread

Serious question regarding Copper:

$CPER

If everyone thinks it's about to run like mad, would the low IV Oct calls ATM not be a wise choice? Or possibly some OTM call spreads on Jul like the 28/30 for $.80?

It is going to close well above all major MAs. From a technical standpoint, there is no reason to believe it will have any significant dip.

I'm leaning the same. Biden is supposed to talk infrastructure this afternoon, but I can't see how that would have anything but a positive effect on markets; unless I'm thinking about it all wrong.

Been trying to sell two - 4/30-$46Calls at $0.30 and can't get it done.

Someone in this thread this week stated that as Tesla earnings goes so goes Nio - for stock price action(paraphrase). I think this is likely to be a true statement.

I don't see much volume on those calls so I don't know. I'm super bullish on Copper but didn't expect it to get to $4.50 this fast.

Keep an eye on the runoff election in Peru (2nd largest copper producer). The guy leading the polls has been rumored to want to nationalize their mining industry. Give yourself time for the election to shake out.

He is unveiling his new tax plan tonight, which supposedly will be pushing for capital gains and short term cap gains changes, etc.

Theoretically that should be priced in, but who really knows.

That was put out last week and the market already absorbed it because Manchin said 'no' as did the Chamber of Commerce lobbying arm

Might have been me parroting Redler from a morning Dog Pound call. Gut feeling only but I am thinking NIO may go the other way. They didn't play BTC as part of their earnings and think they have upside.

I am taking May 50c into it but not big.
