Is the approach net free before tax or after tax?
Net free indicates you got back what you spent and are still in.

What's there tax if you haven't made money?

I think your basis is on what you sold, not the full amount at the time of your buy. If you bought 1000 shares XYZ and are net free after selling 500, you have realized 100% gain on the 500 you sold. I don't think you can defer the tax basis of the shares you still have to balance what was sold, but I'm no accountant.

You made money on the shares that you sold.

You have realized gains.
Yup. I'm stupid. I was thinking in terms of an end of the year statement showing no profit above your cost.

There's definitely tax involved.

Lets say you buy 100 shares of ABC at $2/share. A month later you sell 50 at $4/share. You'll be taxed on the $100 gain (4-2 * 50). You're net free on the remaining shares, but you'll also pay tax on those gains when you sell the rest of your remaining shares.

Note: I'm the further thing there is to a CPA.

Agreed we can take this elsewhere, but Corp Finance and personal finance are not the same. Not even close.

And I wasn't referencing margin... I was speaking to cheap debt on tangible items of ownership.

I've used margin in trading before and understand it's benefits, if used wisely.

Yes this is right. I'm guessing it's a matter of personal choice I was just wondering what others did. I'm new to this in my personal finances but we look at stuff like this a lot at work and def try to get things back on AT basis

I just got violently shaken out, but check some of the opening positions today for this strike date with no real open interest. Interesting.

Sold half of LYFT calls today to reduce risk, but lets hope earnings today are awful. Should bode well for the stock price. .

$BFT - bullish pattern, hopefully we benefit from "diamond hands" on this, as opposed to stupid hands. It rejected the 21, which is good. Closed below the 8, not good, but we can let go another day. Second close below 8 and you want to make a decision. RSI neutral, needs volume to return. Moving averages are positive. Running out of time. Tomorrow is decision day for me.

Maybe wishful thinking but I think technicals indicate AAPL is just building and building pressure and primed to explode...

Are any of you invested in Alteryx ($AYX)? They report earnings AH today. I'm a huge bull long-term of this company, and believe it'll get bought out at some point in the next 5 years.

Also looking forward to UIPath's IPO at some point this year. I love data analysis and automation companies' futures.
Don't hate me, I ended up throwing a 115/125/135 put fly on the table for $1.60 or so and it's heading my direction.
