What was that Doctor's name that showed up for like a month and was big on VIX puts when it was in the 80's?

The Qs are underperforming and VIX is getting stronger. I picked up some SPY puts for next week. Don't trust market right now

Sorry, but I'd say the number is roughly zero.

There are people on this thread who demonstrate trading discipline, which helps performance.

There are people on this thread who are good at uncovering trading opportunities through decent due diligence.

There are people on this thread who are adept at choosing entry and exit points for individual holdings.

There is no one here who "knows" what they're doing in the markets, as that would require certainty regarding the future. At best, there are educated guesses, and discipline in taking gains or pulling the plug if the concept goes awry.

In my opinion, 99.9999% of the people on this thread (and in the population overall) would be better off investing in a well-rounded market basket of low cost index funds, regardless of investment objective. Certainly this is the case for retirement funds or college savings.

Now, when it comes to fun money, and trying to catch lightning in a bottle with discretionary funds, this thread provides interesting ideas, methods, and concepts. Traders can certainly learn about advanced trading strategies (use of options, for example), but count me as a skeptic as to the value of any "trading system" (especially the pure chartist stuff).

Success is great, and I'm enjoying it right along with everyone else. This thread is great fun.

My main point is that if one thinks they can outsmart free-market economics and an efficient stock market consistently over time, they are sadly mistaken.

Enjoy the brief periods of outperformance! Celebrate them when they happen!

QD...Any ideas on what's moving it today? A lot of volume but can't find any news.

I hold shares in this and NIO and trying to figure out what to do with them on a longer term basis. Wondering if I should trim some QD on this pop.

My 85% gain in one year in my retirement account, largely thanks to this thread, can now be invested in old school basket of funds and my return 25 years from now will have out performed the old school way by what 5:1?

Morning chaps! Checking in to note a few things...

  • My name should probably be taken off that list or moved waaaaay down.
  • "From the outside looking in, you can't understand it. And from the inside looking out, you can't explain it."
  • I finally sold some ROKU yesterday due to some year end tax stuff (40% of shares bought in August in my taxable account that gets the other 60% in that account down to about $30 cost basis). I'm watching it closely because it could be setting up for a big correction at least <300 and potentially 200-250. It's just how it trades so I may consider selling quite a bit in tax deferred and some covered calls in taxable next week. I think next week's price action will be telling, but it's setting up an ugly bearish engulfing weekly candle right now... needs to get back above 340-350 for any hope of near term continuation. Be careful. I think ideally we'd like to see some sideways consolidation flagging 330-360 before a next leg higher next year.
  • I'm 35% cash now in liquid accounts. <10% cash in retirement and other tax advantaged accounts.
  • I hope everyone has a happy new year... I think we can all agree 2020 has been one hell of a year!

If this post is on the B&I forum, lighten up it's just money!

Disclaimer: I'm not that smart.

Today is their annual shareholders meeting, although I'm not sure if any noteworthy news surfaced. I sold today on this pop to take my 2020 loss.

if you bought SABR with me, I sold the Feb 14C for $0.65 on 2/3 of my position. This puts entry in the 10s. Decent odds you get called out but that would be an OK trade

OK - back to risky, stupid trading ideas!

I've been doing some surface-level cryptocurrency research, and I'd really like to be able to take advantage of overexuberance or upside. The alternatives I've found are underwhelming.

GBTC and ETHE from Grayscale are a couple vehicles that seem to work at first glance. They kind of crack me up, though. They recently bragged about lowering their management fees from 3% to 2.5%. Thanks, but no thanks. I haven't found any ETFs that are low cost, and cover the waterfront of competing bitcoin/crypto currencies. Also, you can't buy options on Grayscale's funds, so that kind of leaves me without a way to try out my strategies (likely a put/call strangle for dramatic moves either direction). I'm definitely not wanting to buy actual currency off-market, so Coinbase and others aren't an option for me.

Any ideas?

Anyone think CIDM is going to flash to $.60 again? Missed it yesterday but thinking that if it goes to .60 again it might punch through and drop lower
