I'm late to the party on MARA, but am a believer in BTC longer term like others here. Is now a poor entry point/wait for pullback or is it better late than never to get in?

ok got you. i mean id still be making money even if I bought the stock back immediately anyways since i also pocketed the premium. Seems like a no brainer.

Yeah I think if the stock was only going to be pennies above the strike price and you wanted to keep your shares, you would buy to close your calls back at a much lower price, therefore keeping your shares and pocketing most of the premium
i would have to look at that scenario with a real world example because reading a lot of this stuff just doesnt make it click for me.

In that scenario i feel like i would be able to just skip a step and rebuy the stock if it was called out. In my example i am in the money until $9.46. If they were called out at 9.02, Id have the cost of the contract that was called out and my premium so i would be out the delta between the strike price and the price of the stock. in this case, id still be collecting $0.44 per share after rebuying. I feel like rebuying the contract would most likely cost more than the $0.02.

I am really just curious to see if i have a grasp on this whole thing. thanks for talking it out with me,.

Only thing to keep in mind there is you'd always have short term holdings instead of potentially getting to long term status for tax purposes

if you think btc could be 50k or 100k, then i might be worth getting in now. 28k is on a hell of a run. maybe do a half position now and if it drops, load up. if it breaks 30k, then might be worth to get the next half. just my opinion who is a strong believer in crypto. I am loading up on ETH as my primary though.

Y'all don't be bad mouthing zest. Zestd (after rev split/uplisting) has been rocking and rolling. I am thinking about pulling out my capital and going net free though, as i think if the settlement/buyout doesn't happen by Thursday's close there's gonna be a lot of folks pulling their money out of it
This might be premature timing... trial is not slated til March so still plenty of time for a settlement
dude...luckily I went with my gut. Had 300 shares and up 50% so put in an order to sell 200 at 13.3 and only got filled on 150 (see my volume at 1:30pm? lol). Buying opportunity today!

It was the Jan 15 $50 but that was yesterday near $2. I wouldn't enter now.

HaHAHA

You are getting to know me too well. I am really hoping for one last big move on the SPY to enter out to February Puts at whatever the 200 DMA is at that time. Right now that number is in the $334 area.

The Feb 19 $335 are $2.90 right now. I'd like to see those at $2 and I'm a buyer.

I asked when I saw $6.5MM come across on the June 350Ps

The missing part is you keep including the premium in your thought process. As has already been mentioned, that's a sunk cost. That's already been paid. If the stock closes at $9.01/share then it's worth $1/contract to execute it and buy at $9/share. That premium is long gone at the expiration.

I think lotsa people are hesitant to give advice on this one considering its been known to tank as well before and I believe they have left themselves quite a bit of room for more offerings as well so that might be keeping it in check a bit.. As far as what you should do I think your guess probably as good as anyone elses. Maybe OA has some insight.

Lol, I was net free. + like 150%. Then sold it all in the 6s.

Learned a valuable lesson in probably best to keep a little in just so you hedge against an even bigger gain and still feel good about it all.

Long term I worry about Mara adding shares. You should also consider the halvening when looking long-term for any mining company. Mining rewards half every ~1.3 million btc mined. So long-term their revenue, in btc, goes down while costs are likely to decrease at a lower rate or be flat.

I should add, short term I think it's got a good run up to catch up to what btc has done recently. I'm looking for $14 and hoping for more.

Right, sunk cost for the buyer of the options. So even if they lose money on the trade, they lose more money to execute if it's in the money. Also as others have stated, most brokerage firms automatically execute if you are in the money unless unless you have an agreement for them not to.

Not at all. If you want reason to gouge your eyes, go back to Jan - Mar and read the dumbass questions I peppered the board with.

Also I've been trading options for 14 years, though not very well for most of that time.

Last day for tax selling for people.
I've seen this mentioned a few times, but not sure I get it. Why wouldn't there be tomorrow and the next day too?? (30th & 31st)
you have to take into account settlement.

John carter is selling a live trade session for "annual tax harvest bargain basement" Thursday.

Here is the carter email text, just fyi

"It only happens once a year

And it's my favorite event because it's so predictable.

That's why every year we live-trade it together.

Don't miss out! You can still save your spot HERE.

Every year investors dump losing positions for tax deductions on the final trading day.

Like clockwork, certain stocks plummet temporarily.

That gives us a predictable opportunity to buy at fire-sale prices.

This sounds like a cool exercise. Seems good candidates would be stocks that went on a run and got hyped up at some point in the year, then the hype died down and the stock pulled back, leaving some chasers holding bags. Goco and ostk come to mind, as well as zestd, mvis, ???

Pretty accurate - I compare it to us kids talking back and forth until one of the adults steps in to help us
