I know y'all are traders but long position question for ya
I'm long jnj (insert jokes here) with cost of 109 80
Had it for couple years. Seems like it doesn't want to get past 150-155.
Thinking of putting in sell order for half my shares at $150. Good idea? Bad idea?
My thought process is that's good to capture solid gains on some of it. But with all healthcare stuff particularly their involvement on covid stuff it is worth holding some.

Wait and see and if it drops to 137 or so sell the rest.

I have some long calls as well as an underlying position in GOCO. Right now I'm down about 41 percent on my calls and thinking about selling for whatever I can get for it now before earnings. I realize that could blow up in my face, but if earnings are lackluster, I'll be down even further. What would you do in my shoes?

My calls expire in March with a $15 strike.

You need to have a trade plan on what risk/loss you are willing to accept. When I buy longer dated calls, I typically plan to hold them until close to expiration. I have no idea what strike/premium you paid. Personally speaking, when I have 50% loss on something, I typically cut. You can always get out and re-enter. It sounds like you aren't comfortable with it.

QD put in a goal post 10+M volume candle Sept 20th and my alarm didn't go off. Just saw it for the first time as I've just let the accumulated shares sit. It is up near resistance and could make a breakout move anytime.

$30,000,

I paid $2.60 ask for the calls. Honestly, I'm still trying to get my feet on the ground as far as options are concerned, so the loss, while it sounds huge in percentage form, is not a lot of money in dollars.

I'm primarily a long investor, but do like to dabble in some options every now and again.

That's not terrible, $17.60 by march to break even

you can monetize shorter dated calls against it to create calendars or diagonals, if you want to. so you could sell a December $16C against it or a December $15C, and wash/rinse/repeat.

That's what markets want you to think. Meanwhile it broke to all-time highs and consolidated a couple of days right at previous resistance. You see $359 odds are you will see a bull leg run up.

MBIO $2.92

I have a bunch of $5 covered calls to expire worthless and don't want to give away that last nickel to buy back. But MBIO looks primed for a move and having sold those at $0.80 think I might have too buy to cover.

I'm watching ever so closely. Sold 75% worth of my position via ITM covered calls for next Friday at $2.50 to get an average return of $3.10....my cost basis on the shares........This could come down to the wire of lose it or buy it back.

Assume you've been holding since 2013ish in order for it to be a 65 bagger?
Yep - average cost of 28 cents a share in July 0f 2013. Sold most of it (I think I bought 5-10k shares originally) when it ran up the first year or two. Unfortunately, my cost basis for my remaining portion is only $412 (1500 shares), so it's not like this is life-changing money, by any means.
So, PLUG continues to perform. I reached an 80-bagger today, after a daily 11%+ gain so far. I've thrown away thousands on protective puts (currently hold 3 tranches of them), but it just keeps plugging away. Anyone else have an opinion on PLUG? Cramer from CNBC seems to be hot and cold on them, but currently is positive on the outlook.

Anyone have thoughts on CIEN or LLNW? Found both as recommendations for tech stocks that had decent Q3 earnings but called down short term guidance and got beat up because of it.

Huge gaps to fill and with CIEN in particular, could be an interesting longer term play as demand for bandwidth will continue to increase

wow, congrats! no idea on when it runs out of steam, but maybe just set a trailing stop and let it keep running.

Seems like it's part of the energy rotation (solar, hydrogen, etc., that cranked up when Biden was looking like the front runner. I would expect if Trump starts to look like the favorite for it to pull back (but merely an opinion), or money to rotate out at some point soon regardless. Maybe set it and forget it though!

Used to own this stock a while ago and hadn't checked the price. I bought in in 2014 in the $2.xx range. Was just out of college and very new to investing so only bought 500 shares. Sold earlier this year in the $4.xx range. Just saw that it's $22.xx now.
