Japanese Buying is Back....Treasuries Closing On Important Resistance

The Fed spent lots of time and capital again yesterday trying to convince the markets that the inflation and economic growth will be transitory... The market seems to be listening... The next 2 hours will show some very chunky numbers... Some of the biggest we have seen for retail sales, where estimates are close to 6%, and some are talking double digits... Yet treasuries are grinding towards our important week end levels of .83 5 years, 1.60 10 years and are already at our 2.29 long bonds... If these break, we could see another push towards .75, 1.47 and 2.21, respectively... Risk parity players seem to be derisked and lots of shorts, except for CTA's, have been covered... Again this does not change our longer dynamic of higher rates this quarter, but the current range could be extended.

Lots of flows into markets...according to our friends at the FT, a trillion dollars has flowed into exchange traded funds in the last 12 months. Global net investor flows into ETFs has soared to 359.2 billion in the first three months this year, the busiest on record... This shows growing confidence in the global recovery from the pandemic...Assets of Blackrock are now over 9 trillion...

Equities... Some of the froth of the equity market reversed at the end of the day as the new Crypto sensation Coin Base, slumped from 430 to 310 in a matter of an hour... Causing the Nasdaq to close near the lows... This has reversed this morning at the "rock star" Cathie Woods has bought 250 mm worth of Coin into three of their funds, it is up 27 dollars from the close...and equity futures are shooting up nicely across the Dow, S+P, Nasdaq and Russell. The correlation between rates and Nasdaq 100 continues to be solid... And with 10 years down to 1.61, and the potential to get all the way to 1.47, the Nasdaq could rally substantially in the next three days.

Corporate issuance... Corporate issuance continues but coverage ratios in the last few days has seen some weakness, where bid to cover has ground down to 2.5 from 3.5... But we sense that is about to change again... JPM has already announced a benchmark deal of 5 issues... And the Tencent 4 billion deal that was postponed yesterday ,is back in the hunt... We expect all the banks to come to market....and spreads continue to be steady with more buyers for credit yield and ideas that sellers of secondary...

Rates...10 year 1.60-1.58 looks like first resistance... Then 1.52 and then 1.47... We read a piece from JPM that was a bit scary this morning about SLR ratios... The CFO of JPM, Jennifer Piepszak, said that the bank is trying to get rid of deposits..."raising capital against deposits and/or turning away deposits are unnatural actions for banks and can not be good for the system in the long run"... We think that at the margin this will hurt their demand for treasuries and mortgages.

Every stock I own or was tracking is up in the premarket.

Got a good fill on selling WWR Aug $5p this morning. Bid/ask is at 1.35/1.55 but my 1.75 filled.

Is $SKLZ ever going to find a bottom???
