So the lesson here is, get net free without realizing any gains. Then when you retire and become "poor", just cash in enough stocks to keep you "poor".

How do you go net free without realizing gains?
Sell half your shares when the stock doubles. You didn't gain anything except free shares and don't have to pay tax until you sell the rest.
Oh boy. Lol.

It is at 10.11 right now.

I think you are referring to VIXY.

Question about spreads for y'all:

If I want to enter this spread, for example:

Buy Feb 30 C at $1.55
Sell Feb 35 C at $0.75

Do I have to be able to cover both positions in my account? Or are they considered as covering each other, as long as I don't close out the long call?

I'm on TD/thinkorswim.

Thanks!

Do yourself a favor and park some money on UVXY in the low 10s.

The slightest hiccup in the macro market will send it to the upper teens/20. A large correction will send it soaring.

UVXY spiked to 110 in March of 2020.

I bought ITM calls at 5 strike too.

Looking back through the historical pricing, has it ever been as low as $10? In 2016 it was $10,000 or so a share?

What? Don't you have to pay taxes on the shares you sold? There's a realized gain there on price/share.

Yes you have to pay taxes on the shares that you sell. If the stock doubles, then you have a 100% gain and then have either a long or short term gain.

I am sure every brokerage firm reports it this way. No way can or will they allow you to not report these gains

It's dipped briefly to 8-9.

There was a split at some point in 2016/2017.

Ah yes, you are correct. Ordered up 1000 shares of UVIX on the morrow. If the shlt hits the fan, I'll at least have some folding money.

Seems to be loading up (I know I did unintentionally after buying in too high) for a ride but needs some volume. I gave more than I intended @ 18.95, but this thing looks to be ready to move.

Is UVXY or VXX a way to hedge and also use volatility play? Wouldn't UVXY be shorting the Vix? If you think there will be a volatility spike wouldn't you buy VXX?

Okay as a newbie I CLEARLY misunderstand tax implications of the net free strategy. My bad. Guess I get to look forward to a big tax bill in April!

Anyone else get the updates from Captain Solutions with the top trending stocks on social media and conversation volume? Usually get 3 email updates a day I think.

FWIW $CLOV has been on it for days and is #1 on this evenings end of day report.

Something is brewing....

Fidelity's wanting me to acknowledge a Designated Investment Agreement before I can buy. I've read it, am I missing something with this?

Probably because:

A). You're dealing with a volatility ETF
B) it's not a fidelity ETF

Fidelity is very very very risk averse.

A lot to digest this quarter with a new admin.

Full transparency. I started a 25K starter position at 10.13 average.

I also have 6/18 $5 calls for 5.50 entry

Yeah, but there's only so long they can prop it up. I think next week is earnings report (though I'm not certain on that).

Traders of TexAgs, what are your thoughts on getting into some IBIO? Seems to have some pretty solid volume. Was up to $7.45 6 months ago in July. Closed at $1.46 today and is at $1.69 After Hours.

IBIO:
that was a Covid play. I think they're in the vaccine production biz (with the intent of cranking them out fast). Seeing it back down under $2, it doesn't look like it's run lasted. It does look like it has reversed trend (and up AH).

I like ITRM a lot more, if looking for a bio with some real room to run. It should hit 3 to $4.

and of course a board favorite (an OA play), MBIO - my biggest holding at the moment.

Sorry trying to get this down. Did you buy $25k (or $250k) of UVXY? And you also bought $5 calls for 5.50 so you are in the money anything above $10.5? I can't see how we don't have some sort of pause with this market...

Maybe it keeps ripping and I hope so, but my gut says we have a pullback within 3 months. Not sure if it's some huge correction but a resetting before we go higher

$AMZN - After close I put in an order for a butterfly for tomorrow pinned at 3350. We'll see if Fidelity will try to fill since the order wasn't placed the day of expiry or if they kick it out.

I'm eyeing some BS YOLO flies for AMZN 1/29, 2/5, and 2/12. All way OTM. I'm trying to look at potential gamma magnet and look at upside performance before and after past earnings to give me a feel for how far out I could go.

Thanks for the insight! I haven't followed ITRM, what do you feel would be a good price point to hop in? Thanks
