Never bought options before. Bought my first call today for INTC.

On TDA it was a buy to open. I do not plan on exercising options.

Please explain the difference between sell to open and sell to close.

Edit to add:
I bought INTC Jul 24 2020 61.5 Call (Weekly) for .97 , it is currently at 1.07 .

For calls, a sell to open is commonly used for writing (selling) covered calls. Selling to close is the exit for a position you have bought to open. For puts, it's the reverse. Short summary:

Bullish? Buy calls or sell puts

Bearish? Sell calls or buy puts

To exit any of these, do the opposite of the original order.

Sell to close would be "selling" the call option you just purchased. You can only Sell to Close if you own the underlying option.

Sell to open would be selling a call option to someone else. I suppose this would be almost a direct offset to the call option you just purchased, but you won't be able to sell to open unless you have margin enabled in your account or you own the underlying security (selling a covered call).

Tech is once again doing it's best "Atlas" impression while holding up the world. The remaining sectors seem neutral to weak at best. S&P will climb, but is this enough to really go nuts? I don't know.

When ONTX was hovering around .90 on Friday, OA posted saying to cover your basis by selling less than half, if possible.

INTC has an earnings release on July 23

I own a July 24 Call.

When exactly does the call expire. End of business day on the 24th? I plan on selling the option before it expires. I would like to sell (sell to close) the option after the earnings release.

Yes, it will expire at the end of the day on July 24, resulting either in assignment or a worthless expiration. You can sell the option at any point prior to that.

Went net free today on ONTX shares and PFE Dec Calls and made my first donation to Old Army's fundraiser. Thanks again for the help, I will be lurking looking for more opportunities to make money (and donations!)

So being that this is the final week of the pay for sitting at home to many the question is will the government sell us further down the river and re-up it? Likely which would all but guarantee markets test all time highs. But I'm sure the politics back and forth will create a down day into any agreement so if we reach close to $325 SPY I'm grabbing $320 Puts out to next Monday and would close half but look to buy shares against remaining on any move below $320.

Is there news causing the ONTX run up today? I'm still holding all of my shares for now. It sounds like some people are expecting good news to drop sometime this week to cause it to run even higher. I guess that could explain the insider buys that happened recently.
