Whoops! I helped build the buoyancy for the riser. The company I was with is no more. Wild.

saw this today as well. i can imagine the weather up by the shetlands was crazy but still, not good. at least there wasn't any loss of well control.

Video is going around the industry.

Looks like an issue with the tensioner ring lock dogs.

Ol' TJ Inner Barrel shoe wasn't rated for that load! Going to be out for awhile. Diamond will need to recover the LMRP and Riser, replace the MUX lines and hotline, all drape hoses, and each tensioner wire.

Guess they're going fishing.

All I saw was ultra-deep water rig. Anyone know what depth they were operating?

1500ft iirc from a campaign a few years ago. They've been under contract with BP for that region for years.

Had some of our fancy buoyancy on it because the currents were ridiculous

Rig name definitely didn't live up to the water depth! Pretty shallow for subsea.

That's 20 joints; assuming they were 75 footers... not horrible, but definitely a black eye from a loss of control perspective.

The LMRP though.... ouch. I wonder what kind of stack it has...

I wonder if shutting in LNG export had anything to do with it?

Do you mean the biden political stuff ? No, that has nothing to really do with the front of the curve.

Like I've been saying for the last 18 months, Natty producers not being smart, too many of them, Comstock, Aethon, a few Marcellus guys need to not exist.

Also this winter hasn't been very fruitful save for 4 days last month. The forecasted cold spell for the second half of Feb looks underwhelming, so it's looking too little too late on the demand side.

Agree, too much supply. That contango in the curve was too much red meat

I was banging that drum since last year around this time. Just didn't make any sense given the prospects at the time…here we are now. Hope all those producers are happy now.

Yeah those companies should stop producing and let their debt ratio go to infinity, it's for the greater good

They're on their way now. Siri, pls run field cash flows at $2 Nymex into most producing basins .

The most frustrating part of natural gas is its truly the government, and very dumb liberals, stopping its expansion.

Suspension of gulf coast refining and LNG expansion is just gonna increase flares at the pad. That gas is still coming out of the ground, just a matter of if its going to do useful work or not. The fact that the marcellus shale is as close to city centers as where NYC gets its water from (Ashokan Lake) is a slap to the face to every poor person having to pay out the nose for heating oil.

Let it be known that even if america were able to export LNG around the world as well as finally get a pipeline to the east coast, shale drillers would still find a way to get it back to down $2 in less than a year.

I'm at NAPE and yesterday's sessions discussed this quite a bit

It seems to really screw Europe and others but if the pause is lifted soon, it should be OK, because this doesn't affect things for a couple of years

I didn't know how important India is to the Texas Permian oil and natural gas sales - Gov Abbott highlighted that

I hate tinfoil conspiracies, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of the plan. Force flaring and then use that as the means to shut down drilling and continue to force "green" energy.

one of the biggest issues for Nat Gas is the Permian Basin. the Permian/Delaware guys are price takers on gas. Their biggest issue with gas is not pricing. It's take away, so they can continue producing oil and associated NGLs. Absolute killer for the mainstay Gas companies.

Biden's LNG pause is dumb as hell but has nothing to do with current pricing.

  • Force flaring that looks horrible in propaganda campaigns and isn't good for the environment.
  • Limit the ability to justify an efficient source of energy by localizing consumption moving forward
  • Scare the population with NG or other "highly dangerous" materials being forced to being moved by truck or rail.
  • Expand incentives for "green" energy

Sit back and watch the shift.

don't forget:
  • enact two separate laws, one which lowers the baseline destruction efficiency assumed on all flares in the country, and another which places a tax on excess methane emissions so you can also collect revenue on all this flaring you just forced
