CHK has a lot of prime real estate in OKC
Not one anyone that could buy them would want to incorporate into their organization. BP is not a well run business outside of maybe their trading business.

I'm not saying someone (Shell/Total) wouldnt want to buy some of BP's assets but a corporate acquisition would be difficult to see synergies and then you take on BP asset/mgmt. risk in integration.
I'm happy to be proven wrong here, but BP sure seems like it's best opportunity is to stay below the headlines given their CEO issues, Green Push that isn't working at all and history of asset/mgmt. issues.

Somewhat ironic considering they just promoted Orlando.
My business experience with BP is only with their subsea group, but they weren't any different than Shell or Exxon or Chevron culture wise to be honest. No more or less a PITA. Macondo just tripled their risk specs and made them a little gun shy (understandably).
They sure could find great fields at a higher clip even if their specs didn't allow for development.

I actually hail from south Texas, lived in NOLA for 10 years, but yes, BP's ops are all GOM with some projects on the way….
