We can only pull out 4.4 MBPD but apparently they are planning on releasing it over a period of months. I can't imagine <500,000 BPD release affecting the market even if it is coordinated with other global reserve releases. And since futures went up this morning, it appears that everyone else thinks the same also. Or at least the ones that have a clue.

Not to stop the hate of the gov't train, but selling from the SPR has been the norm for the past 5+ years.

SPR historical sales

And as aside, the US government gets the oil from leases and stores it there. By holding it and selling 'high' we (the citizens) can get more money than selling spot.

And that is fine, but don't tell the public that it is going to lower gas prices significantly.

1). It isn't supposed to be profit focused - it's supposed to be crisis focused.

2). They didn't buy oil hand over fist in 2020 because that would be a "subsidy" to oil and gas companies. That's far worse than selling SPR now.

Ultimately, this will have a pretty marginal if any effect because it doesn't solve the fundamental supply-demand balance. It's just selling crude from storage which interestingly didn't cause prompt month crude to drop... It only flattened the curve by raising futures prices.

I don't think the intent of the SPR was to release oil when you want because your polling is dropping due to gas prices. Pretty lame precedent, not to mention it doesn't do jack. Also a bad look when the Secretary of Energy is on TV and has no clue what our daily rate of oil consumption is just after releasing something from the SPR.

My goodness I wish the follow up question pressed her to explain why the need for SPR release if she doesn't even know if the US needs additional oil supply or not.

Or how about where will the oil be released/shipped? I understand it's headed to China and India and we have Democrat politicians wanting to restrict exports.

I don't think the public is gonna fall for it again.

It might not impact our public but it will continue to affect other countries public. Shutting down countries again. Australia still has limited travel to and from and it isn't the only one. I'm curious what current CBD real occupancy rates are. I know that some have gone back, but for instance, I know that my company has gotten out of like 50% of its real estate because of some layoffs, but also because there aren't plans for people to ever come back. IEA estimates oil demand returns to pre-covid levels by end of 2022 but I think that is optimistic

I'm sure someone here has an idea of if there are some kinds of issues with oil demand being depressed while natural gas demand is soaring. Obviously there is not enough gas in the right places currently but is that going to continue or is there some ability to get some pure or mostly pure gas plays on line. I know that gas facilities that I work with are doing whatever they can to increase production at any cost. Replacing limiting factors to push the limit on the platforms.

Hoping that OPEC+ can turn things around this week with some cuts but they aways seem to underdeliver in situations like this.

Anyone here have experience using composite pipe (Flexsteel) for gas lift lines? Curious if there are any concerns
sts7049

we use flexpipe for a lot of our new flowlines on our wellpads, and other applications.

don't know offhand what the limits are for pressures in that kind of gas lift service. also the flexpipe we use has vents at the ends to allow venting of gas that permeates through the inner lining. not sure if that would be suitable in lines for gas lift service or if that even matters

We use flexsteel in 600class service for gas lift injection in NM.

Looks like were just going to continue to move sideways in the 60-70s until COVID is over.

This SPR move was dumb. Not filling it in 2019 was super dumb. Being short on oil if there some military action in the world is mega dumb.

I also think the longer we move sideways, the less likely this is a massive jump to 120+.

Good for humanity though since people were going to be screwed by high prices and supply constraints.

Aren't they just a construction company? Not really a midstream company. Maybe I'm wrong.

Yes they are construction. They don't operate but they're one of the bigger pipeline construction players.

Yeah they are a construction company but pretty much entirely pipeline related services. Definitely a victim of the midstream slump.

Every time we quoted strike they were at least double the lowest price if not triple. I never understood how some of the operators around us were using them.

We have used a lot of the composite brands for gas lift with good success. Only issue we have had is with the cyclic loading and vibration separating pipe layers downstream of compressors. I don't think we have had this issue with flexsteel only on the fiberglass composites. We went back and modified the pipe downstream of compressors to have longer steel pipe runs before we transition to the spoollable products.

Strike is a big player in the pipeline/facility construction game. I thought they had an investment group swoop in and pump money to keep going. That's a big domino to fall
