Electrical equipment is sold painted per the NEC or produced in a material such as aluminum.

I do O&G I&E. I suspect that the mechanical side is far less regulated than the I&E side due to NEC.

Most racks are galvanized that I deal with in pipeline and plants.

Skids and piping are painted.

Gavin Newsom just announced the sale of gasoline powered vehicles will be banned in California by 2035. So does this mean people just buy in AZ or NV then come back, or people just continue to flee the insanity that has been California over the last decade?

Is this for real?

They can't even supply enough electricity to the grid during summer months, and now you're going to make everyone drive EV and put more strain on it? Seriously how the **** are people in leadership so stupid?

Is all electric generation going to be emission free as well?

Like Cyp said, with BP / RDS pivoting and now policy like this, it's time to get long oil...

Great! Auto manufacturers can stop wasting resources making their vehicles "California Compliant"

Executive order!! Wow, seems like a bit of an overreach by the governor there. Maybe pass a law for that one?

Can't image a 15 yo EO would hold up in 2035. Either by someone else coming in and kicking the can down the road or by court action.

If it was any other state I would agree that 15 years is a long time. But this is California we are talking about here, so maybe?

Has anyone seen CNG in shipping containers?

I just got a request to send Electricians to Long Island NY to wire up decompression skids for CNG to public use pressures

The story I heard is that so many people have moved to Long Island from NYC, due to corona etc, that the NG system can't handle the demand.

https://marcellusdrilling.com/2020/06/thigpen-blue-roads-merging-to-form-sapphire-gas-virtual-pipe-co/

I found this article

I guess the NY greenie weenies would let them build a pipeline so they are going top truck the gas in.

Technical question and disclaimer this isn't my area of expertise.
For shale, you drill a horizontal and have good initial production. Around 9-15 months some wells might liquid load or begin to lose pressure so you get them on gas lift. At some point though with your production decline while on gas lift you just end up recycling gas right? So there's a point where it uneconomic for the well to still be on gas lift due to compressor and LOE costs. So Ideally after some point the wells should go to a pump jack or similar correct?

At what point do you know/figure out that GL is uneconomic and you're just recycling gas?

Sorry if my questions are formed poorly.

I believe what you are referring to is LNG ships that are being shipped out of a few LNG liquefaction facilities, primarily located on the USGC... The smaller CNG containers and even LNG delivered by trucks in the Northeast is due to increased gas demand and their refusal to allow pipelines to be constructed to the demand centers... If you can't ship it by pipe, you ship it by truck in either LNG or CNG form...
Comeby!

You are correct. The next logic step will depend on how much fluid you are moving. The economic limit of the artificial lift will depend on the operator. Some will run it down until the well is not making any money, others will decide when it's making a certain amount of cash flow or production, for example: down to 100 mcfd or 25 bopd, or $5k/month in CF.

If the gas lift system is regional (i.e. several wells sharing permanent compressor stations) it could be economic to lift with gas lift (or plunger assisted gas lift) a very long time before needing to be converted to rod pump. Not sure where you're going with the question, but gas lift could run 10+ years depending on economics.
Comeby!
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Correct. Central compression will affect the economics. We have wells on GL for over 20 years, granted, most are ready to be put on pump or plunger.

Wonder if there is any possibility that the majors/larger caps start buying up some of the gas names to undo all of the "put everything on oil" that has been going on. Feel like oil is going to be on a pretty negative supercycle for a while.

Is there any way a Colorado oil producer survives this? Seems pretty bleak if you're aiming for DJ oil.

You're right, I should have limited the question to the large caps that gravitated towards pure play Permian.

A lot is going to depend on your phase breakdown and commodity prices, but let's assume your primary product is condensate or oil. You're correct that you have natural flow until you reach your critical flow rate, or the well loads up and puts back pressure on your formation.

A lot of operators now are using gas lift due to cost and availability of gas. Failure rates are much lower than rod lift. You also have some using plunger assisted gas lift (PAGL), and some are testing Single Point High Pressure Gas Lift in exchange for ESP's.

SPHP Gas Lift removes the gas lift valves so it's one less failure point. Also, visualize the perforations in relation to your lifting point. If perfs are at 90 deg, how far into the lateral are you going to set your rods and pump? You can get GLV's and even a plunger much deeper, thus having a lower lifting point and less back pressure restricting flow.

Let me tell you about certain shale operators who have to start gas lift on day one in the Permian.

I've seen operators drill wells 1000 feet away from existing wells and not be able to flow the well naturally at all.

I mean there are phenomenal BSS wells that don't flow day one. Just very low GOR. Look at the northern edge of the Delaware basin after Wolfcamp pinches out in 3rd BSS to find examples of that.
