I shot there once. Pretty good for a range here in the city.

Our school (Golden) is doing a 2 hour delay start tomorrow. It didn't get above 3 F at my house today.

I'm guess other districts are as well?

Not that I've heard. Tomorrow expected to be colder and more wind. I'm flying out at 8am.

Moving back to the springs (Falcon) this summer and holy **** it looks like a lot has changed (growth) out on the east side of town since I left in 2016. Looking forward to getting back there and the hell out of CA.

My company (General contractor) , who has never really worked in CO springs, has been doing quite a bit out by the airport in the last few years. A new hotspot for industrial warehouses for sure.

And every time we go to great wolf lodge, that area has twice as much stuff it seems.

Can't wait! First time living somewhere with a Whataburger since leaving TX 16 years ago. Just saw that there's one like 15 minutes from my house.

Speaking of Great Wolf, taking the kids on Wednesday since they're on winter break.

what district?

I've been hearing about this winter break. I just had lunch with my buddy from Houston, and they were here on winter break. He said they've had it like 3 years.

Did you actually get a cheap night? Or has GWL caught on to the winter breaks and jacked up the price for the week?

I swear they are privy to every school calendar out there. Never do I find a cheap day when they are off from school.

Got a killer deal, just had to do it Wednesday night instead of Thursday. I think I booked it in December around a Christmas sale? Only way we'd go. I think normal price is close to $500 and I got it for $120. It's the room with the bunk beds for the kids. They love it.
District is St Vrain. We moved up here in 2019 and they've had it ever since. I figured it was a Colorado thing. They get a 5 day weekend in October, 5 day weekend in February, 1 week off at SB and 2 weeks and a day off for Christmas. Works out great for trips as the one in October is always right in between my two daughters bdays.

The fall and spring break have been around for the 10 years we've been here, but I've only just now heard talks of the winter break.

We just went to Mexico two weeks ago, just pulled the kids out of school lol! But a break in Feb would be nice, we don't like to travel over xmas/nye. My issue is they already start first week of aug and go to memorial day week.. not sure I want either of those to be pushed a week.

But you watch, GWL will catch on to these winter breaks, and that $120 won't be anymore.

Hey all,
So I'm heading to Denver later this week for a job interview in Arvada. Trying to figure out how best to spend my time. I'm thinking I will check out a few neighborhoods to see what I think about them, but aside from that I'm not sure. Would like to keep the commute to 30 minutes give or take, any suggestions? Any tips for someone looking at moving into the area?

Restaurant suggestions would also be appreciated.

Old Town Arvada is really cool. It's basically downtown Arvada. Lots of cool shop's restaurants and bars. Go walk around there in the evening and find somewhere to pop in.

Yak and Yeti is great Indian food.

And Texas Roadhouse! Kidding but kinda serious too. We really like it.

We like Smokin Fins down there as well.

Arvada has a great feel and some of the better views. If you're working in Arvada, I bet you could find something in that general vicinity that works. Maybe look into Lakewood as well?

Old town Arvada is cool like others have said.

I would look west in Golden if I were you. If I could live anywhere in the metro area it would probably be Golden.

I live in Golden. Really between Golden and Lakewood.

We love it!

Yeah…Golden is WAAAAY out of the budget. That topic is actually one of the main concerns we have with this potential move.

Fair enough. I personally would not really look east of Arvada. Reasons for this are farther from the mountains (a few miles likely won't matter much obviously), and the areas north of Denver can be a little rougher crime wise. I'm sure there's nice neighborhoods in there, but the statistics are what they are.

Everyone's got different priorities, but I would look West/South West.

So sounds like Thornton or Brighton would be rougher areas?

I've seen a lot of recommendations for the Castle Pines/Highlands Ranch area in this thread, but from what I'm seeing that's a 1 hr commute from where I would be working, which I don't think is ideal.

Generally speaking Thornton would be, yes. Brighton would be a pretty far commute unless its city limits aren't as far out as I think they are.

CP or HR to downtown would be rough. I live close to CP and just going to the DTC some days can be 30 min.

I'm assuming the job is in arvada since that's where the interview is at, not CBD. Even worse from CP or HR

If working in arvada I'd stick to west of 25, north of 6 (or maybe 285), and south of about 120th. I work around there, but other than that I don't really know the area at all, as far as neighborhoods and price ranges and such.

I do know that immediately by my office (off pecos/52nd) there's some older little houses that I've seen young couples living in.. tiny 1200 sf houses that are $500k. Seems like a pretty non desirable place to live to me.. tons of truck traffic around, the little shopping center by me is run down with a dollar store and save a lot. Lots of broken down cars and rvs on the sides of roads, wandering people now and again.

Maybe look in Westminster or Superior as well. Since Superior lost a lot of homes in the fire, prices have gone even higher on the homes remaining.

Since you are in Arvada, just be well informed if you choose to look into Candelas. It's very nice area, but former home to Rocky Flats Nuclear Facility.

Proximity to Rocky Flats[edit]
Main article: Radioactive contamination from the Rocky Flats Plant
The location is south of the former site of the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons production facility. Environmental groups have expressed concern that the radioactive and toxic contaminants from plant operations and accidental releases have not been sufficiently remediated. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Energy, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Public Health Service and U.S Fish and Wildlife Service say living in the area does not pose any significant risk.

New Quik trip in Parker, $2.39/gal.

Place across the street is following them down, they are mid $2s as wel.

Cheapest station in the country apparently.

The QT opened recently.. but not like yesterday or anything. I think it's been about a month. Someone on nextdoor apparently asked the manager if it was just a grand opening pricing scheme, and they said no, they intend to keep it low.

I guess we shall see.

Nice to be happening 3 miles from my house. I use gas buddy.. and parker is rarely one of the cheaper areas in town, save for Costco. I used my $30 savings to go have happy hour with the wife
We put our kids in the daycare thing at school for a few days during spring break.
