Just wanted to mention that the wife and I have made up our minds--we're moving this summer if my job let's me. I expect they will.

I'm probably looking south, although a friend of mine is pushing Littleton for the schools. HR, Castle Pines, Parker or even Castle Rock are likely my destination. That is unless I find a really cool neighborhood in Arvada which seems to be affordable.

Random question: where are the friendliest neighborhoods? I know that's largely a personal bias, but it's something we're really hunting for. We live in a nice neighborhood in Houston, but I actually think most of my neighbors won't even notice that we're gone. It's just not that neighborly sans the one LSU guy that just moved in.

My wife is born and raised in Denver and she would tell you Littleton schools.

We are moving back south to Littleton if all goes well on a house we are purchasing. A couple other Ags live Highlands Ranch, Lonetree, etc.

I don't know ebough about Arvada but I need to be close to Patxis pizza!

Congrats! Definitely join the local Aggie club. We're excited about the events on tap for this year.

We picked Cherry Creek schools after everyone we encountered saying they're the best. (You see a lot of Cherry Creek (HS) stickers on cars, and I liked that.) Littleton is well regarded, too. My impression is that public schools, on average, are better in CO than in TX.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good general practitioner doctor (m.d.) for a male physical / check-up in the Denver / south suburbs area?

I've gone to Anew Family Care (Dr. Barton & Dr. Compton) the last 3-4 years; office is in DTC. I may look for another doctor, as their care has been fairly average.

If you need a dentist, I highly recommend my friend Michelle Haynes.

Congrats on the news! I would also recommend checking out Golden and Evergreen, if the foothills suit you. I absolutely love it out towards Golden personally. A little bit further away from the city etc.

I second that. We live in Cherry Creek School district. No complaints.

A lot depends on where you work, and what kind of commute you are comfortable with.

When I first made my move to the Denver area I was looking for similar work and didn't have a ton of luck. Sanjel is up North, and Superior Energy etc. I know it's not a lot of help.

Denver Aggie Club happy hour this coming Friday (20th) may be a good networking opportunity. It's at Punchbowl Social from 5 to 8pm.

Not sure exactly what type of position you're looking for or if you'd be open to being a contractor, but my girlfriend works for a staffing company and they work with a lot of O&G companies in Denver. You can look at their open jobs here: http://www.aimhiredenver.com/staffing/index.php/jobseekers/available-positions

If interested, let me know and I can help get you in touch. I also have some friends who work for QEP, but I'm not sure if they're hiring or not at the moment.

Thanks Touchless for the link. I will check it out for sure. Looking for an office job in energy/tech/engineering/plant operator jobs etc, more 8-5 work or field job is fine as long as I am home more. Oil and gas be ideal but the market is down right now with oil price.

Schall 02 - thanks for the Aggie happy hour mention. I was outta of town working or I would've gone to it.

Arrow Electronics is hiring for a ton of tech sales/business dev/marketing positions.

Look at Xcel Energy for jobs in the utility sector. Let me know if you apply at Xcel - I can't promise anything, but my wife works there.

No sweat. I'll try to post future ones here, too. Valverde, are you from Del Rio? I worked down there for almost four years.

So how are you transplants holding up with the weather? I always eyeball it when I see lots of snow and low temps wondering if can truly hack it without being miserable.

I'm flying in today. Still live in Houston but am in Denver about every 6 weeks. I'm dreading it, will be the coldest weather I've ever been in and am slightly nervous about driving all over the state. May cancel my customer visit down in Trinidad.

Oil and gas. We manufacture pressure pumping equipment (mainly nitrogen). Tough right now so I've been on the road every week for almost 2 months trying to get in front of as many people as possible.

Not bad here - I still enjoy the snow. About March it gets to be a pain the ass for me, but I'm good for now.

I love it; really enjoy having seasons. I got about a foot of snow at my house on Sat/Sun, and I can already see grass. There's more snow coming in tomorrow though. The weird thing is that it was cloudy or poor visibility for the majority of 3 days...it's rare to have more than 1-2 days here without sunny skies.

This has been the mildest winter in my 5.5 years in Denver. The majority of Jan/Feb has been great golf weather (50s, 60s and 70s for highs & 30s/40s at night).

Proud is full of ****. The weather is terrible here. The people suck and there are no jobs. Weed is killing everyone and you are lucky to go a day without getting pick pocketed.

In all seriousness you can't beat it. Buy a nice jacket and good socks and a solid pair of boots to use 5 days a year.

Welcome to the best city in the United States.

Although I would prefer if it were located in the best State in the United States, Texas. I miss the beaches.

Honestly though, the weather is really hard to beat. 20 degrees here is nothing like 20 down in Texas. The dry cold isn't near as bitter.

But then you'd have to deal with Texans, which is fine a few times per year for business/vacation.... but I much prefer being in Colorado.

What beaches do you miss in Texas?
Touchless

While it's not the prettiest by any means, I miss Port A. My family has had a condo down there for about a decade and I have absolutely loved going down there and being on island time. Too many good times to count enjoying the beach with friends and nights out at Bernies, not to mention fishing for reds and trout.

Plus, I hate the new law legalizing marijuana. Perhaps it's just because I don't do it, but I feel like it has really taken away from what Denver has to offer. I smell it every single day on my way to work downtown on my bike and see even more bums now. Makes the city seem a little dirtier. Every time I went to Austin back in the day, I didn't like how many homeless people were out there just panhandling and the number of homeless people or people in general on corners begging for money has increased significantly the past couple of years from what I've noticed. I'm not saying it's because of that law, but I don't think that law particularly helps. It just attracts more unmotivated people to a great city.

Sorry for the incredibly random rant. Stepping off the soapbox now.

I have seen Denver on a list of most homeless people.

I saw a homeless dude the other that was sitting on the ground on his Dell laptop.

We've easily had more 50/60 degree days this winter than 20/30. And a lot of them have been the weekend.

Not last weekend though.

Denver loves homeless people and support them...but during the winter they get out of here and head to San Diego. You see more homeless people because the winters have been mild.

I wonder if there are snobs among the homeless. "I spend my winters in San Diego or Napa..... How'd you enjoy lovely Houston, Larry?"

Ha, I enjoyed that. That made me think....there will probably be a documentary about homeless people or a reality tv show within the next 5 years. If that honey bo bo crap, or whatever it is, can draw big ratings, I think homeless reality tv would draw some ratings as well.
