varage sale/next door? I see stuff all the time on there. Course that depends where you live.

Also Goodwill. Had friends get their initial set-ups there on the really cheap. Back in the day there was a Sports Authority outlet store here and that would have been my recommendation for new equipment, but they are gone and no one has filled their spot.

I bought some stuff from the foreclosure sales at SA. Got brand new kid's board bindings and boards for like $10, ski poles for $1, ski boots and skis (their rentals) for $5.

I've since sold all that stuff, most for a pretty healthy profit. Was fun while it lasted.

I personally don't shop there; I'd rather support my local, Lukas being one of them. This makes it even more so. Bad on them.

more or less is irrelevant; whatever is in place needs to be fair to all liquor stores and enforced for starters. I am not in favor of regulation (or lack thereof) that benefits only large national chains. Previous CO laws were very business (small and large) friendly.

What total wine is getting away with is not.

Isn't that how they do business everywhere? They negotiate deals and bring in off branded liquor and wine you can't find in other stores.

Maybe I'm just dumb, but I'm confused what the liquor store owner is saying Total Wine is getting away with. Are they actively colluding with vendors/distributors to keep local liquor stores from having access to the same prices and lead times for products?

FERAL outdoor store off Tennyson. Lots of quality used pants, jackets, skins, snow shoes, etc..

They have a location in Idaho Springs to well, just a block from Mountain Exchange which is also a used outdoor gear store.

Mountain Sports Outlet in Silverthorne has great prices on new and used gear.

apparently, yes because Lukas owner clearly says when he ordered those same products TW had, he discovered case minimums, case delivery fees and non transparency for order fulfilling/back orders with no clear computerized inventory of what distributor has in stock. That's not how the system was set up in CO, and now that chains are allowed, this is apparently being revealed is going on.

It was all the discussion back when they changed these laws to allow chains. Very clear laws on bulk buying. Example, Kroger can't buy all their liquor under one account to distribute to its stores in CO and Each store has to have their own buyer, and product has to be stored on site (not one large warehouse to distribute again).
This benefits small stores by preventing a store like Kroger from getting a product others can't because of a huge order minimum. That is exactly what Lukas is saying TW is doing with products.

He's been fighting this for a while. I am on email list and this is one of several over a few years.

not in CO. All stores have the same opportunity to buy any product at same price as anyone else. That's just how it's been regulated before they started allowing chains. every store was independent, and the tiny ones could be competitive with big ones. Just not as much volume.
Prior to about 2018, only one store of a grocery chain in the whole state could sell alcohol.

This is why you see Kirkland branded stuff in Lukas. And he'll sell it for cheaper. In other states, Costco can charge whatever the heck they want on Kirkland because they are sole seller. No competition.

Don't get me wrong, a system where you have huge chains that can take advantage of bulk buying works just fine and it the capitalistic way, but CO wasn't set up like that, so to change laws over night to allow TW or a specs to come in and have new rules like that would completely decimate every store in the state.

I don't know how you 'phase' that process in, but there already is phase in being allowed on multiple stores. Stores are now allowed to be chains, up to a certain amount for a while, which increases over time. You also have space requirements. A kroger can't sell alcohol if it's right next to an existing store, unless they buy that owner's license, which happened all over the place. That's a win-win for big and small.

So CO can't just let a huge chain like TW come in and play buy different rules, or change the rules overnight that benefits only them (allowing large min orders, etc). The state should be fair to its existing owner base, which is why, as of now, it's simply not allowed.

All I can say is the system doesn't seem to be setup for the consumer at all. You say Kirklands brand stuff is sold cheaper here, but it's not. Also ran into an instance that a bottle of wine my wife likes is around $25 here and $16 in Texas. Oh well, it is what it is with having crazy liquor laws in every state.

CO is more expensive than TX because, well so is everything else. That's just regional cost of living. You see the differences across local areas even.. a beer is cheaper in parker than a bar in LODO for the same reasons. Cheaper rent, lower demand, etc.

end of the day, just like our voter fraud allegations, you either play by the same rules, or it's not fair. Lukas is helping out mom and pop by doing this.. he has the size and capability to buy some of these products, even with the large min. orders in place. All he's asking is the laws currently in place get enforced, and apparently, they aren't with TW, so they continue to break them. He's kind of pulling a Lars in my opinion.

I'm sure he has no issue with growing, getting another store, etc. Molly's has, a few others have. But it needs to be a level playing field all around. I don't think TW has a better location then him, that's not it at all.

A group of us will be making our annual away game trip in Sept '21 for the Colorado game. We like to have one or two nights of fine dining at our away games. Any Denver dining suggestions would be welcomed and what to do in the area on the Friday before the game.

If you want some really good "Tex Mex with altitude" (as they advertise) go to Hacienda Colorado. There are several located in the Denver area and one in Colorado Springs.

A few locations around the front range we've been to Lone Tree and it was as I remembered in Houston.

The Hacienda Colorado suggestion sounds great for lunch for our first day. For the second night we are looking for more of an upscale place, nicer than a Ruth's Chris, with a good wine list. What 3 places in Denver would you suggest, if price was not a factor for fine dining?

Also, I don't know if I would recommend any mexican food here if you are coming from Texas. Maybe if you are fine with just getting tacos, but I have not found a place that has good enchiladas here.

The closest place to decent enchiladas is Rio Grande unless you want to go with Chuy's (an import within the last few years).

Back to the topic - I prefer Shanahan's over Elways. I might go with Ocean Prime or Capital Grille as well.

Haven't been to that one yet.

Totally agree. That said, we've learned to make due and will typically hit Fritangas or even Q'Rico in the SW Plaza mall if we're happening to swing by. But that's only for a specific craving (torta, breakfast, drinks, etc.). There's also Uncle Julio's but that's way the hell up in Wheatridge and we're never by there. The ones we tried in Texas were usually pretty good. It's a shame they opened just in time for the friggin covid mess.

I'll say it, the fried tacos at Mexico City are better than any Mexican I've had in Texas.

I don't get why people rip on the Mexican food here so much. I've had a lot of damn fine Mexican food here that I would rank equal or above most of what you'll find in Texas. Holy crap. I've been pretty delighted since I moved here in 2018. Not the be all, end all, and probably not as good as actual Mexican food in Mexico is, but damn. There are some freaking outstanding Mexican restaurants here.

Thank you for the fine dining suggestions. We will probably skip Mexican as our group is from Dallas, Houston, and Austin, and each of them have go to places in their respective cities. So far I have the following listed below. BTW, we did dine at Ocean Prime in Orlando for the Florida game in 2017 and came back with a win. Not saying I'm superstitious are anything.

There's some pretty good Italian food as well in Denver. It's a little bit of a touristy spot but there's a restaurant in Larimer Square called Osteria Marco that makes all their meat and cheese in house. Make sure you make a reservation for that. There's a couple of restaurants a little bit further east of downtown called Odyssey House and Angelos Taverna that are also really good if you're wanting to mix it up.
