So can anyone recommend a realtor? We'll probably take a trip out there in 4 or 5 months to scout out areas to live.

Unless there was a big change after the Blizzard of '03, they really don't remove snow there, they count on meltoff within a day and just do major roads. Normally works, but then you might get the city shutdown for a week like in the spring of '03. Typical winter in Denver is sunny and 40's-60's until a front hits then it's 2-3 days of anywhere from -20 to 20.

40's and sunny, with no more than a light wind is shorts/tshirt/vest weather.

Denver is officially alpine desert, which means that most of the year its way better than Phoenix, but in late July/Aug it will sniff 100 a fair amount, but 100 in Denver is far better than 100 in DFW or Houston.

Rain is feast or famine, the worst flood I'd ever seen was in Denver in '97. Dry to feet deep back to dry in 8 hours. Rarely happens but does make hill country flash floods look like amateur hour.

It is a little pricer to live in CO vs Texas, overall I'd say 5-10%, but the outdoors more than make up for it.

if your situation allows you to live in the mountains vs Denver, just do it. Despite being 20% more expensive, I've loved every minute of living in a ski town vs Denver, and I liked Denver except for the dog days of summer.

In short we should have kept CO when we joined the Union.....

I think it takes a rare breed to live in a mountain town.
quote:What my buddy Jetpilot86 was talking about was a particular event which you've never seen and probably never will see. In March 2003, we got 48 inches of snow in just over 24 hours when I was living in Highlands Ranch 80129. I had some jackhole get his Tahoe stuck in the snow at the end of my driveway and he just walked off and left it there. Two days later, he finally came and got it after my neighbors and I had shoveled all the snow out of my driveway and created a little path so I could drive around his vehicle. Good thing I could get out because a friend who lived up the Canyon from Golden was trapped in his house so he left his Avalanche tickets at The Pepsi Center Will Call for me. That was nice. Once I got out of my neighborhood, the main roads were in good shape.
proudaggie02 - I’ve been in Denver since 2009, and it sounds like things are different from when you lived here. I’ve never seen the city shut down for more than a day or so. I’ve had maybe 3-4 “snow days” (for work purposes) in 5 years.
