I get excited for people that get to move here. I visited Denver in August '07, and I wanted to move here immediately. Unfortunately, my mother-in-law passed away 6 months later & my wife wanted to be near her dad for a while. So for 26 months, I dreamed of the day I'd get to move to Denver. It's almost been 4 years, and I can't imagine being anywhere else. It's such a beautiful, fun, and vibrant city.... and it's hard to beat being so close to the Rocky Mountains.

How about 5:00 on September 4th? Is Great Divide (22nd & Arapahoe) good with everyone?

My only experience with Broomfield is playing golf at Omni Interlocken. It's right by Flatirons mall, which is a nice area. The course is hilly, lush, and has some nice views.

I'm in the camp that north of Denver is way more "hit or miss" than South. There are a bunch of "meh" areas sprinkled in as you go north and even west.

Thriller, you're making me jealous. My wife and I have been seriously discussing moving to Colorado for the past couple of years. Problem is finding the right job.

Any of you on this board know of any good financial industry recruiters that specialize in Colorado? I've poked around on my own through my network, but it's time to get the professionals involved.

Had a good time

Looks like things are in the works for a move in November/December. Some i's to be dotted and t's to be crossed, but well above 80% confidence we're Colorado residents very, very soon.

With that, can anyone give me recommendations on a few things? Realtor, mortgage professional (possibly with questions on jumbo loans), and a CPA that has experience with mixed Texas/Colorado taxes. Also, will probably need a very good OB/GYN for my wife who is due in January.

We'll be up there sometime in October to do some touring of schools/areas/commutes. I'd love to buy some beers when that happens. A round of golf might not be bad as well, provided the weather cooperates?

What part of town are you going to be looking for houses in?

Right now I think we've compromised and are looking at Broomfield and/or Golden.

She really doesn't want to live south of town, though I'm not sure she can fully articulate her reasons. I suspect we end up in Broomfield, just west of I-25.

I don't know any realtors that specialize in that part of town. I would recommend getting a hold of Rita Mills with Remax and see what she can do for you and maybe point you in the right direction.

There should be plenty of nice neighborhoods in Broomfield. The mountain views are better in Broomfield than down south, but I still like south much better.

Have you guys checked out both Broomfield and Lone Tree/Highlands Ranch? If not, I'd recommend spending 1-2 hours in each area. As far as down south, take 25 to Lincoln (1 exit South of 470), go West about 1.5 miles to Lone Tree Parkway, take a right to drive past Lone Tree Golf Club, swimming pool, and library. Take a right at the first light (Yosemite), take it back to Lincoln, take Lincoln for about 5 miles (it becomes University) to get to 470, and take 470E for 4-5 minutes to get back to 25. Stop and check out a couple more neighborhoods if you see some areas you like.

Nice- congrats. I lived in Houston for 5 years, and it's a no-brainer to pick Denver. It would take 3x the money to get me to move back there (or anywhere in TX), and I wouldn't last long before moving back.

Proud, I'm with you. I could move back and make ~15% more (straight pay, not taking into consideration tax differences.) but that would only be from the 6-8 or so weeks a year going offshore and getting 100 hour weeks.
On second thought, I get a free truck/gas and cell phone paid here, so that lessens that raise for sure.
