Has anyone skied Mont. Tremblant in Canada, Stowe in Vermont or Schweitzer in Idaho? Looking at skiing someplace new. I've skied the Tahoe area, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, California, Whistler and Jackson Hole. I've never skied up north or in the upper northeast so I wanted to give it a go. One of my co-workers skied Stowe last year and said it was nice and after looking into these resorts they seem big enough...not really the acreage, but all have 100+ runs of all levels. Don't think the vertical drop are as steep as the the usual resorts.

Anyway, just looking at some new places to try out. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you tell I'm already tired of the Texas heat!!!!

I would not do Tremblant in Canada. I live in Toronto and people say it's better to go down to Vermont. Have you thought of Banff?

oh yeah...I forgot about Banff. I've never been there. I'll have to add that to the list. Does Banff cater to all levels?

I've got all levels in my usual ski group and dragging them to Jackson Hole was a chore. After we got there none of them had any problems, but I've read the Banff is more for advanced.

I think Stowe is the front runner with Banff being right up there. Although, I'd like to hear from anyone whose skied in any of the Idaho resorts or Montana's Big Sky. List is getting too long!

I've been to Mount tremblant. It's family oriented and the setting is pretty nice. Unbelievably cold in january 2 years ago.
Xcountry skiing was pretty nice too.

Tremblant is cold as hell in January. We went at the end of March and it was very nice. Very nice village, pretty big mountain, it was enough for us to get our ski fix in. Be sure to spend a good 4 hours or so at the Scandinave Spa. http://www.scandinavetremblant.com/en/ Not a bad way to spend $45.

I've been skiing in the West several times and have been to Stowe twice. Generally the East isn't near as good as the West, but Stowe is a nice resort with lots of runs for all skill levels. It is pretty easy to fly into Burlington and drive less than an hour to get there.

Stowe is less likely to have the icing problems that are so prevelant in the Northeast. It is further north (close to Canada) and it gets more natural snow. It can also be cold, cold. The coldest I have ever been in my life was skiing at Stowe in January. The temperature one day at the base was minus 10 and it was pretty windy. I got a brain freeze at one point on the lift when we passed over a windy valley on the way to the top of the highest point.

I've also heard that the Eastern resorts don't stack up as well when comparing them to the resorts out west, but I'd like the idea of spending time skiing in the New England area and hopefully away from the crowds like in Colorado.

Stowe is near the top of my list. Although, some northern resorts are sneaking their way in...Montana, Idaho, and Banff in Canada.

Thanks, keep the comments coming...!
