Thats 5 guys hitting .250 or below in the lineup. And Berkman at .265 isn't much better.

That's at least a bit better than the 6 players in yesterdays lineup hitting .237 or below

2/3rds of the lineup yesterday that's just terrible.

Scott has a sore knee. He has been icing it down most of the day. Garner decided not to play him tonight so he can rest it and get better.

I'm goint to try and not fault Hunter there for being aggressive. Had he walked, we probably wouldn't have scored anyhow.

Ensberg jacks one deep and looks to be getting more confident at the plate..

5 Hits in one inning ties season high for the D-Backs...proof positive that when the Astros aren't going, they're the absolute cure to what ails you.

When the Astros go into a funk, they are the worst team in the league...while they've had some hot streaks under Garner, these futile funks are just all too common.

beef: take a look at that line. we don't get that many extra base hits in a week of baseball.

While I'm ranting, here's another issue in that inning that exemplifies what's wrong with this team:

Owings is all over the place and missing up in the zone, flattening out his slider up in the zone, etc. The Astros are content to sit back and try to work counts and just get walks and get on-base.

Wandy is doing almost the exact same thing and the D-Backs are swinging as soon as they see something to hit. The reason they have 5 hits and 4 runs as opposed to the Astros 2 hits and 0 runs in the first inning is a matter of being aggressive.

The thing that bugs me the most is that we have a leadoff single that we run ourself out of. Then proceed to get runners on 2nd and 3rd but end up with no runs. We could have had 2 or 3 runs in the first and had Wandy pitching with a lead, but intead we end up with nothing, he gets bombed and this game is probably over after the 1st inning.

Nice deep double by Ausmus...I'm sure he'll be rewarded by a benching tomorrow.

(Let it be noted that I know that Woody is pitching tomorrow and Quintero is his catcher...but at the same time, they put Quintero in there last night so Phil might be trying something different and using Ausmus with Woody).

.182, .250, .192, and Wandy and we can get something going with the worst four batters in our lineup and are still able to fark it up

Astro-nomically fantastic...two base running gaffs. (both can be attributed to a "whoops" by the hitter.)

Wow, now Wandy with a hit...the Astros have run themselves out of 2 runs that would've scored already. Worst case, this game should be 4-3 right now.

So the Astros actually luck themselves into a run. Had Ausmus not been thrown out, Wandy bunts them over (maybe) and Biggio gets out and we score nothing.

it's time for scrap iron to go.. I like him but his time has ran its course.. the team is making to many errors and is playing uninspired ball..

Beef, on astros.com today there is a note about Quintero not catching for Woody anymore. Looks like he might be catching Jennings from now on.

i agree with docbow...i have been %100 behind scrap iron but he has lost his "touch" that he had a few years ago. We look like an old Jimy WIlliams team with mediocre/bad pitching and a horrible offense.

That would make sense lax since he caught Albers last night and that's the slot Jennings will be in on Tuesday and I'm sure, just like a pitcher, you want to acclimate a backup catcher to that spot as quickly as possible.

So either it's going to be Albers with one more start next Tuesday at home against the Reds or Jennings will still get promoted despite his scuffling rehab start a few days ago.

Jennings is with the team already. They just aren't going to activate him until right before his start. Will give the Astros an opportunity to use Albers out of the pen if need be.

This game is reminding me of Woody's last game. Rough start, but holding it together for a few innings. But the inept offense can't get us back in it, then the pitching falls apart late.

I had a hard time jumping off the Garner bandwagon, but it really clears up your thinking.

While Jimy was garbage and top-to-bottom he had a better lineup...especially in '04, but the offensive doldrums weren't nearly this bad. I still hope that Garner can get me back on the wagon...but right now, it's just horrible.

Geez, Lamb starts getting PT and just looks like crap. He's just not an everyday player.

Btw, I saw Jennings pitch Tuesday at Round Rock. He didn't look ready to come back to me.
