Well this is interesting… what are the ground rules here?

Ground rules are it doesn't matter where it would have gone. That's an out

Pretty clear out. But crazy that it probably would have been a HR

Super unlucky for the Friars. I'm ok with it but never been a fan of live ball after hitting the roof.

That sucks. Padres take the lead in the 9th if not for the roof

Interesting to me when broadcasters act like something like that's never happened before. I assume they watch more baseball than me and I've seen it this year.

If you build a dome it should be high enough it can't shag a ball.

Or make it a homer.

Effing ridiculous.

Didnt really care who won this series but will be rooting for SD now.

I want the winner of this series to win it all now, but officially Team Anyone But LAD or NYY

I think the real issue is that the ground rules should allow for a bit of nuance to be taken into account when it comes to something this unlikely happening.

The ballpark clearly affected the outcome of the play, just call it a foul ball because it looked to be hooking foul and give France and Megill a chance to finish their matchup fairly.

I'm sure Murphy would have gone ballistic if they would have called it a foul ball because of how the ground rules are written, but the final outcome went against the spirit of the game by having the stadium roof become a factor in the outcome. I'd rather both guys be mad and we just call it foul and move on.

I'm not saying I agree with how the ground rules are written. Honestly not sure the "best" way to handle.

But, in my opinion, the bolded is honestly a key point of baseball. You have fields that are turf and fast. You have fields that teams water like crazy to slow ground balls. Then you have the obvious you have fields with short right/left fields, crazy deep center fields, etc. The ballpark effecting the outcome of the play is part of baseball. Just rarely in this way. If a ball is a HR in 29/30 parks but not the park they're playing in, should it be a HR?

Edit: NM, didn't realize statcast used the actual distance for balls in play not projected.

Chart of balls with a 49 degree launch angle. EVO of over 105 have resulted in 1 HR and 11 outs. I wouldn't be surprised if a few of these hit roofs, though.

For another odd one. Yesterday Pham pulled a ball with an EVO of 106.1 mph and a launch angle of 31 degrees. It resulted in a catch at the wall, 366', and a double play…..

Yet about 99% of balls hit with that EVO and LA to pull side result in a HR and have an average distance of 415'. 25 of 26 balls hit with those metrics this year resulted in a HR.

Probably a data error. Even crazy spin is rarely enough to make that difference. If you look at 96.1 instead of 106.1, it looks to be perfectly normal.

Dude!

2-2, 2-out, 2-run walkoff for the Brewers.

What a finish!

Rooting for the Brewers to finally pay off a really good season, legacy of Bud Selig be damned.

The yelling my wife and I did was loud. We are big Brewers fans. (No, not from Wisconsin or even the north. I'm from CC and she's from the Valley).

We got to go to the last series of the season and it was a blast. Here's hoping for a good game tonight for the Brew Crew.

I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

Dodgers pitching helps keep Braves in check. Dodgers win 3-1 to take Game 3!

The Friars are looking pretty good tonight. They gotta get this series to 2-1. Merrill (CF) had some incredible plays early on and Cronenworth (2B) had a clutch go ahead bomb.

Friars were without their two best closers in Adrian Morejon and Miller.

Morejon took himself out of the rotation Sunday and was unavailable again today
.
Miller was on paternity leave.

Do mlb players really not know how to figure how to avoid having a kid in October? Does that need to be written into contracts lol

Too bad it doesn't start until 9:00 tonight. I'll be asleep long before that one is over, so I hope there's a game 5.

As a Dodger fan I want the Guido Sarducci's and the Yankees to get through to us so we can Peter roll both of them!

(That's if we can escape the Braves series)

If the Effin' Dodgers win the NLCS they'll be the first NL team to win three straight pennants since '42, '43, '44 Cardinals. No NL team has won three straight World Series.

Haha not sure if anyone noticed but the tnt score bug went to 3 outs and mid 4 before that HR to Mickey Mouse RF cleared the fence
